Come to think of it, I just LOVE the smells of summer!!! I guess that’s really what it all comes down to for me also, Anthony. It’s just that the Wildwoods personify those great scents better than any place I can think of.

The smell of go karts exhaust, seafood, pizza, salt air, chlorine, and suntan lotion. Best feeling is the wind against your face on a tall ride [ferris wheel, condor] or a tall balcony ledge [motel] at dusk/night.

I saw this topic and thought I'd add to it even though its been 6 months since last reply. I think that my favorite summer smells include the combination of sand and the ocean early in the morning as I'm walking along the beach. I loved the smell of the motel rooms in the Sans Souci Motel at 22nd between Durf and the Boardwalk. I would stay there every Irish Weekend and for days in school, dream about the aroma that would greet me as I open that door. I love the smell of Mack's and Sam's, and Curleys, and also the smell of Gateway26. The salt air, and the Summer Sky, with the sounds of the neon lights, humming off of the 24th Street Motel and the Bayberry's signs. As I write this, I am anxious for summer. But remember everyone, Morey's Piers open in about 75 days! Sounds like far off but will be here before we know it!

Good post---I got to think the morning smell of the ocean during a bike ride on the boards----the pizza--peppers---onions at the Hot Spot---the chlorine at the water parks and pools. I think there is a combination of good smells depending on where you are.

I don't know how far back many of you go so I'll give it a shot: As soon as you left the main boardwalk and entered the old Casino Arcade you were hit with several really strong odors all at the same time. Mixed in with the musty smell of the mildewed old wooden "barn" that was the arcade, you first noticed the smell of roasting peanuts on the right, side by side with the cotton candy machine and the pungeant burnt graphite and grease smell of the old bumper cars. While you were thrilling to the peanuts, popcorn, and cotton candy on the right side, your left nostril was overwhelmed by the sharp acidy smell of raw clams and lemons at the clam bar to the left. It's hard to explain if you didn't experience it personally: roasting peanuts, warm popcorn, cotton candy, raw clams and lemons, grease and graphite, all at once - It was incredible, especially on a really hot and sunny afternoon. Oh, did I mention the smell of several different colors of paint from that spinning wheel machine on the right that spun paint into different patterns? Thom

Good point Thom---you could be constantly smelling a variety of things depending on where you were standing---and it could change from block to block!
