I even remember the one fudgy wudgy guy that use to put the strap of his cooler across his forehead, with the cooler on his back!!! I hope that was near the end of his shift and the cooler was almost empty!!!!! And I loved the paper boys too - "Philadelphia Daily News - Daily News here"!!!! Man do I wish we could turn back time!!! The late 50's to the late 60's were THE BEST times in Wildwood!!!!!

And I don't think that box was empty, it sounded like a ton of bricks when he would drop it in the sand. And those guys covered some ground, you never had to wait long to hear that familiar cry. I always went for the ice cream sandwich. The middle of that thing would melt out all over my sand covered hands, leaving me with the two mushy cookie parts, with bits of wrapper stuck to it all. I finished every sand covered bite of that treat, then my mom would send one of us out to get a bucket of water to wash up with.

I wonder if the fudgie wudgie guys are working in this heat wave??? Yes, they are. At least, the more healthy and dedicated ones. I know Joe Duncan is working in North Wildwood. That guy never misses a day. It all depends on how healthy you are or how much you need to make the money. When I sold fudgie wudgies I was always looking for an excuse to take the day off, mostly because of my bad knees. Thom
