Well, the final authority has spoken... Dad says "that looks like the Oasis from the rear." Bingo. He's 80, but his memory's better than mine

Glad to hear you got the confirmation! I'm pretty sure about Bradley bikes moving from the site in the picture to the site where it currently is. Here is another picture from the Admiral East Sundeck in 1978. Its a little hard to define streets and corners but at least it gives a wider view. Kinda looks like the restaurant is gone and Bradley bikes is still in its old location. You can see that there is nothing on the corner where Bradley bikes is today.

Nick, it's so great that you still have these photos! It looks like I may have misread some Oasis parking as being Ocean Ave in the first shot. You're saying that Bradley Bikes moved across Ocean Ave, from the southeast to the southwest corner of the intersection, right?
And you're right, there's no sign of the Oasis in the 1978 photo that I can see. Your 1976 picture may represent its final days. Thanks again for posting it.

I remember the Oasis....I didn't think anyone else did! It had little jukeboxes at the tables (I think). Kirk at the Wildwood Crest Historical Society sent me an aerial photo from the early 50's and the Oasis was right where everyone remembers....Rambler and Atlantic. I believe it was owned by a member of the Schumann family. It's kind of fuzzy....I was around 3 when I first went there. My aunts had houses on St. Paul and we all used to go there for ice cream.

So cool to know that someone else has pleasant associations with that place. I don't consciously remember the ice cream, only the lunch stops there, but I'll bet there is "ice cream" written somewhere inside those happy little Oasis memory cells ;D St. Paul is where my original Wildwoods hangout was/is--the Atlantis Lodge/Internationale/Atlantis condo. Maybe you remember that from back in the day, too? It must have been wonderful to hang out with your aunts in their homes on that street. Can you share that photo that Kirk sent you? I'd love to see it.

I'm not the most computer-savvy person, but I promise I'll figure out how to get the photo up for you. It was right across the street from a church. And the photo shows a back patio....which I don't remember.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but....my computer guy and I just spent an hour trying to figure out how to post the Oasis photo. I know there's something simple I'm overlooking. Any help would really be appreciated.

If it a file on your computer, simply go to www.imageshack.org and host it, then copy the forum link code and paste it into a post.

Wow... Thanks so much for taking the trouble to post that pic, ilovewildwood. Hope some of the other old-timers here enjoyed it too. I appreciate the confirmation of my hazy recollection of the Oasis being fairly small and having considerable open space to either side of it back in the day. No Admiral West (or whatever that motel was originally called) yet. After a ride on the boards yesterday morning I talked a little bit with Tom at Bradley's Bikes about the Oasis. He said, "it's funny, just this year all of a sudden, a few people have said to me, 'hey, do you remember the Oasis?'" The Ocean Place condo project that claimed the life of the Oasis in the '70s also forced Bradley's Bikes across the street, as nickp said. Tom recalls going over to the little restaurant for a black-and-white whenever he was feeling out of sorts.

Anyone know who the developer of Ocean Place was? writhinganacondo, is that why you mentioned Hovnanian? Maybe they have some pictures of the site before they wiped it... I'm almost positive that I read somewhere that the Moreys built Ocean Place. In fact, I think they still own a unit there.

So far, no luck confirming it.
