All through last fall I had one of the team's McNabb wallpaper images on my computer at work to help inspire me to make good picks in the office NFL pool, which I actually did win one time And also because he's nice to look at, of course. That's probably why he ended up having such an awful season--I am bad luck for football teams and quarterbacks in particular. As soon as I take an interest, they take a nosedive ;D I'm only a casual pro football fan but the Eagles' successful runs and championship near-misses in recent years had caught my attention and I thought they were a lot more interesting than our NY teams. They have a very nice Web site too. "Fuzzy" even posted a few times on the Eagles' message board last year (my first time ever venturing onto a sports forum!) when all that unbelievably bad stuff was going down with McNabb and his injuries and T.O. I hope this will be a much better year for them and for all of you "legitimate" Eagles fans

Go Birds!!
I agree Al, great time of year. Summer is great, but I'm a die-hard winter guy at heart. Eagles pregames are on, I'm going to the Flyers on Oct 4th. In South Philly (with the Mummers) Mum Season starts.....its the best time in the world. We rehearse on Sunday morning till early afternoon for the parade, then we go back to our club and watch a game, and Sunday nights we have Mum Time Jam nights where we get bands in the club and just have great parties. Last 2 Sundays in December are the Santa and Hat Day Celebrations. These 2 days are filled with String Bands and Comic Club Brass Bands marching up 2 Street counting down till the New YEar. Its the greatest feeling in the world. Thats Why I love Mum Time ! lol

Did you get any ribbing last year for having a picture of McNabb on your computer? Just curious. ;D

Thom Thanks for the suggestions, Thom! Of those four, I have only been to Woody's. I will have to try the others out at some point this year. Do you know anything about Sportsmans Tavern on 3711 New Jersey Ave. (either right across or very close to the Sandman Tower)? It's not in the most attractive part of town, and the building looks pretty worn and weary from the outside, but that place always has intrigued me.

This epitomizes not just how great the fall/winter months are, but what a great city Philly is to be in... especially at this time of year!

I went in the Sportsmans Tavern once and it felt like that scene in Animal House when the kids go into that black bar and everyone looks at them. Let's just say I didn't stay too long.

Al - Just a friendly suggestion... stay away from Sportsmen's AT ALL COST! Not the best part of town, like you said. I'll leave it at that. Thom

You want an intriguing bar go to the Ship n' Shore. For extremely reasonable homemade sandwiches and the world's largest age gap go to the Firehouse Tavern. The Oceanic was bizarre until they went "martini". Then there are the VFW and Am. Legion halls in old Wildwood. Time will stand still.
