The thing that I will always remember about Wildwood ... was just how happy my family was there. In all of those many years of vacation, every single memory is a good memory ... both large and small. It didn't matter if it was raining, sunny, the stay was short or long ... we were always happy to be there. Great post! I had no idea this forum even existed until today! I can't stop reading it! The amazing thing for me is that I had no idea others felt EXACTLY as I do about WW! My wife never went to WW as child so when I go on and on about it she is amazed. After many years she finally understands it and I think the above quote captures the essence of it for me. I grew up in a tumultuos household and have many sad memories but no matter what - whenever we went to WW we were a happy family!

Great post! I had no idea this forum even existed until today! I can't stop reading it! The amazing thing for me is that I had no idea others felt EXACTLY as I do about WW! Being able to share that Wildwood feeling, so hard to describe to the uninitiated, is the really outstanding characteristic of this forum, for me. It also lets you look at the Wildwoods through other people's eyes, which is wonderful, because there's so much there--both present and, alas, past--that I don't think any of us can have it all at our command. More than a few times I've had the pleasure of rediscovering a deep-seated memory that was brought back to the surface by some detail in a post here. It's a gold mine. With a few hazards, as in any mine... Welcome to the group--keep digging and enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome Fuzzy!
BTW, when I used to long for WW as a child I would go outside, wrap my arms around a telephone pole, close my eyes and breath in. No...I'm not crazy! But a telephone pole is the closest thing that smells like the boardwalk!
In fact, the smell of a telephone poll immediately takes me back to my childhood at WW...

Now that's creative! I think I'll try it on my next lunch-break stroll out here in the 'burbs ;D (We don't have telephone poles in NYC, do we?... Hehe... this is why I'm an editor and not a reporter...)

You know what, that telephone pole thing is true.
Have you hugged your telephone pole today? ;D ;D

No, but they just put some new ones in down the road here. Think I'll try that tomorrow while the traffic's going by.

I, too, would smell the telephone poles and be transported to WW!! I still do it from time to time. The odor/scent must be what the poles are treated with...probably not too healthy. Sort of like breathing in the chemical mist of the mosquito trucks in the 60's. I'm surprised I'm still here!!
