Great pics! I live on the boards in the summer...day or night....it doesn't matter. My friends and I are all in our 20's and we'd go to the boards over the bars anytime! Actually over July 4th this year, at 22 years old, I rode the Nor Easter for the first time and then continued riding repeatedly until the ride closed for the night.

How did you like the Caribbean, Denise?

Denise- I love the b/w shot of the Nugget... did you use a digital camera or b/w film? I really like the variety of highlights, midtones and darkest blacks that b/w photos capture. Color photos are nice but I prefer the b/w ones. Great job! -Kristen

Thanks a lot everyone. MMM, we didn't actually stay in the Caribbean. I just walked around and took some shots of it. I always meant to do that. We're going to be staying at the Fleur De Lis for a few days next week and I can't wait! Kristen, I used a digital camera for all the shots. I converted the one to black and white using the channel mixer in photoshop. It usually gives a shot more depth than if you were to just desaturate it in photoshop. Glad you like it!

The Nugget looks kind of sad in it's abandoned state. I was only there once in my life when the Nugget wasn't open. I'm glad I got to ride it a few more times before it shut down again. It operated from 1960 until the 1990's. Was there any other times that it was closed? It was closed 95, and 99-present I know. An article at the museum about the Nugget said that it was SBNO in 1992. I guess in today's world, restoring old dark rides are at the bottom of the list. They were more interested in redoing Dante's than the Nugget. Today's parkgoers, especially youth are probably just interested in thrill rides and the tallest, fastest, anyway. Why do giant coasters and tall thrill rides make the most money and draw the most crowds for parks? At least the Morey's didn't demo it, think what might have happened if the pier got another buyer and that buyer would have ripped it down. After all, I bet no one knew that the second owner of the pier 1986-1990 after Hunt sold it was going to rip down half the rides on the left side of the pier in 89. It must have been a complete surprise to many. I guess in the business world you have to make decisions to stay alive, and if the owner felt that demoing the old coaster and other rides to make more money with other rides would at least keep them in business and the place open, then so be it. But, it failed anyway, and other ownerships failed, too. It's probably not what Mr. Hunt would have wanted but he sold it, so it was fair game for anything to happen. I'm sure there wasn't a thought of demoing anything during Mr. Hunt's watch. The pier was sold intact, as-is in 1985. Nothing was touched until that sob got the cranes and bulldozers in.
