sounds like Lancaster. Even the Amish aren't immune from this anymore. They should do to these folks what they would do in most other countries around the globe.. they'd be getting out of prison just in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 50's. But oh no, we can't do that in America, let's give them probation. but I digress....

They HAVE to give them probation; the prisons are all full. The last time I heard; Berks County was so over-crowded, inmates were sleeping in the halls. Heck, they leave murderers out early; why not druggies?

Name ONE city where they don't have drug problems. Actually, 60 arrests are hardly nothing when you think of the amount of people.

The appeal of Wildwood. Boy, it is everything to me. I am 45 and those of you know I have been going on and off for 40 years. There really is a certain magic that surrounds Wildwood. For me, time seems to stop and the world can keep going, for I am in Wildwood with my family and all is right with the world. The sounds of the ocean waves make you put all your troubles and worries behind you.
My mom has said that she may not go back. So many of the things that she personally liked to do are now gone. For me, I will always go. It goes far, far deeper than buildings. It is the boardwalk and the "remember when" stories that we have been saying for years. It is that first walk up the boardwalk up 26th street and seeing Sam's, Gateway, the beach, etc. The excitement of walking the boardwalk and seeing what it new, what is gone and what should be gone. I actually help plan our church festival which is a big event and I cannot tell you with going to wildwood all these years has helped me with this.
Time stops and I am young again in Wildwood. It holds a special place in my youth and also my adult life that I will never let go of. Yep, they can tear down buildings, they can put up condos, but they can never take our memories and love of what Wildwood was and what Wildwood will always be to so many of us. I am so happy that my boys love Wildwood too and look for them to continue the "Michigan Tradition" of Wildwood visits.
Thanks for this great thread!

I wonder where exactly all these arrests took place. Most were of people trying to buy drugs. One thing I noticed is quite a few of the people arrested were in their 40's and 50's. Prostitution around Wildwood is something I have never seen, I wonder if any of it involved that bikini strip bar

It really doesn't matter where the arrests were made. Just look up any newspaper ANYWHERE and you're going to have the same type of crime; I don't care where you live. It's getting bad everywhere. As far as Jackie says, That is what I really miss more then anything; there is NOTHING ANYWHERE that compares to walking on the boardwalk, hearing all those wonderful sounds, listening to the ocean. I have been many many places and no matter what beach I went on anywhere, it just wasn't the same. It's like something's missing. Maybe it's because I grew up going to to Wildwood, I don't know. I can sit on a beach here and it may be beautiful but it's still not the same. It really does nothing for me. But when we would go to Wildwood every summer, go to the ocean, walk the boardwalk; I never wanted it to end. I LOVED IT!!! And I really really miss that so much! My children loved it as much as I. And I really hope someday all of us can go back and try to re-live those wonderful times. : (

Ocean City, MD is one of my favorites, too though. I love the Haunted House ride there on the boardwalk built by Bill Tracy in 1962 and the Pirate's Cove walkthrough in the amusement park. Wildwood no longer has attractions like those, all the Bill Tracy stuff was basically torn down except the Nugget and Dr. Blood's and neither of them run. I think Ocean City, MD has the last Bill Tracy dark rides on the shore. There's also the Haunted Mansion at Rehoboth, DE built by Bill Tracy's successor Jim Melonic in 1978. Ocean City, NJ got rid of all their dark rides in 1986. They had one called "Ghost Creek Caverns" that closed after 1986, I wonder what that was like? It was at the Gillian's Wonderland Pier. There was also the Monster Mansion and King Tut's Tomb walkthroughs, and the Haunted Mansion ride-through at Playland's Castaway Cove, which closed in 1985. Seaside has two excellent attractions the Stillwalk Manor ride and the Haunted Manor walk. So for me, what beach or park is my favorite depends on what dark ride they have if they have one. If a park closes down and the dark ride removed, I will go elsewhere.

Wow, Robert, you said a mouthful there!!! I have been a regulat at Ocean City, Maryland, also. But I never knew all you just said til now. So Bill Tracy was really involved all over, wasn't he? Why did Ocean City, NJ get rid of all their dark rides? Safety reasons? Well, I'll tell you one thing about Ocean City, Maryland; they sure hold on to their kiddie rides! I have pictures of my older children on the same rides that are going stong today and my oldest is 35 years old!
