Was on the B'Walk yesterday with the Kid, and she ran into her friends at the bookshop. So I walked home alone along Ocean Ave. As I passed the enterance to the parking lot at Ocean and Roi Grande, I noticed the sign welcoming folks to town. 'We are glad your here' Now with all the folks in town you would think someone would know the correct way should be >you're< here. ...just a thing that bothered me.

Anisha, I agree 100 %. I have no problem with improper use of words or grammar in an informal setting (anyone who has every had the displeasure of listening to me talk would understand why), but something like this in a public presentation should be noticed and corrected. There's a similar example where I work, at the library at Temple University. Down the way from our main desk is the entrance to the computer lab, which is called the "Scholars Information Center." The sign about the lab, however, reads "Scholar's Information Center." Ung... the irony of that... ;D

Is this the start of the sign that they were supposed to start last year?

When I read this thread title, I thought it was about Motels with broken neon signs...

Went by yesterday and the sign has been changed to 'You are' instead of 'Your'!! Guess the sign fixer reads this forum!

I flinched, too, when I walked by the sign Sunday night and saw the original version. The convention center certainly ought to present a more polished image than that. It didn't surprise me much, though. I've noticed "your" being used instead of "you're" much more often for a long time now. Capitalization has fallen out of favor similarly, I think, because that darn shift key is even more inconvenient than the apostrophe... The digital generation is all about keystroke economy.

Ugh, I can't stand incorrect spelling and grammer outside of a casual setting (such as a message forum). Simple computer tools like spell check and grammer check are so easy to find and use, and if those aren't readily available, surely there is someone that can be asked to proofread. I'm sorry but there is no excuse for that kind of mistake on something other than a piece of cardboard written on with a Sharpie.
Ever go to a restaurant and find a spelling mistake on the menu? I bet most people are like me and read the entire thing just to see if there are any more!

The former president of American Airlines (Crandell) once said "Coffee rings on the drop down, means poor engine maintenance" (in the flyers' minds.) Mis-spellings on a menu reflect the quality of food purchased, how it is prepared and even sanitary conditions (in my mind)
