I have heard a slew of rumors over the past few months about a new bank building that was scheduled to be built on Rio Grande Ave. with a neo-Doo Wop theme.
I haven't had the chance to visit the Wildwoods since early February, so I'm not sure what is going on with this potential project.
Has anyone else heard (or seen) anything about this?

I haven't been down there since the end of July so I have no clue. Hopefully someone else here does, and if it's true, that would be real cool.

I'm hoping I'll be heading that way in the next 10 days. I'll be sure to take a look. Al do you recall what block?
I haven't been there since October so I'm in for a rude awakening. Sure hope I can find my house ;D

I drove past it today. It is going to be a commerce bank. It looks like it is going up pretty fast, There was no sign of any retro design yet. To early to tell.

The new Commerce Bank on Rio Grande Ave will at least have a Doo Wop-style neon sign. We have been in discussions with Commerce Bank to try to have Doo Wop elements incorporated into the building itself, but not sure how much of that they will be able to implement...
In any case, there will definitely be another cool-looking retro sign along Rio Grande Ave...

Thanks for the info, Mike!
The more neon, the better. It's good to hear that there will be another such sign to look forward to seeing on the "entrance boulevard" to the Wildwoods.

It has always surprised me that the McDonald's out on Rio Grande has never undergone a "Doo Wop" remodeling.
Especially, when you consider how many 1950s-style McD's have gone up in various places (including many in NJ) over the past few years.

The bank is using one our pictures of an old boardwalk amusement pier on a 17 foot mural. The picture has a huge plastic guy that looks like howdy doody holding a golf club.

I can't wait to see this new building, along with its sign and the mural Eric described.
Sounds very intriguing!
I'll be down in Wildwood next Wednesday and I'll be sure the check out the progress, and possible snap a few pics to share with the board.
