I am very sad to see the slide go. We certainly had fun on it way back when....and we still talk about the time Dad was riding with my younger sister and got stuck halfway down and the attendants had to come and push him.

I remember first going on the wipeout when i was about 6 and was scared to death of going down it. As a little kid looking down the bottom of the slide seems like a mile away. I can also remember being thrown off the "potato sack" many a time going down. Wasn't the original color of the slide aqua and white? Last year i thought the slide was a cream color. Also from looking at some old pictures of the pier it looks like the peir went up around the slide.

I only went on the slide once! I will never forget it. I think I hit my head on every fall. I remember being sore at 13! How could that ride be scary? Try it and you will understand - ride at your own risk. I will miss seeing it!

While going through some old pictures the other day, I ran across some good ones of the Giant Slide. Sorry to see it go. There were always a lot of people watching the kids come down. I found pictures of my nephew who is now in his 20's going down that slide as a child. He had a great time on the Giant Slide.
Question, if they are going to put a restaurant there, will the miniature golf stay or will that also go. My family and I used to play that miniature golf course all the time. Any info on this?

Hello everyone. This is my first entry. I'm glad I came across this on the web, to share my memories as well in Wildwood. I loved the Giant Slide/Wipeout as well ever since vacationing there when I was little. I should have rode it a couple years back, but felt embarassed seeing just little kids going on it, I regret it now. I don't think I will make it this year, sadly. I think it would be a good idea to take those classic/vintage rides, and either repair them as we remember them, or rebuild from the original designs. They could put them on a new pier, and maybe call it "Wildwood of Yesteryear" If you notice, many old things come back again and are popular, and if their good enough, never ever are forgotten. Now that would be a thrill......

Agreed - do what you like... It doesn't hurt anyone for you to ride the slide except maybe yourself, if you lose contact with it. They're not paying your rent...

The slide was there before I was born. Lets see, it was built in 1969 and I was born in 1974. So, it's been there my entire life and I never knew anything in that spot except the slide.

Robert, let's just admit it, you don't like change and it's keeping you from returning to the island. If this was the case years ago, you would be the one noting to keep Seafood restaurant that sat in the spot the slide and the pier sit now, holding back on what new and unique could come in the future. That new and unique then, would be the development of Morey's first pier. The slide had a good run indeed, and I'm sure what is planned to replace it will blow us away.

Honestly, that restaurant was probably better than the slide ever was.
