I guess if something is going to be done it should be done soon. I'm sure if the Oceanview falls the Singapore would probably follow. The way Mike makes it sound not even a place like the Royal Hawaiian is safe.

I thought the Gondolier (and Attache) were already sold within the family a few months ago? Is this another sale?

Let's face it and I hate to sound negative here but everyone already knows in the back of their minds this place is doomed. Unless someone on this post knows someone who is a big shot developer who can jump in and save the day or go before the ww council and make the world's greatest pitch about why the remaining doo wop style motels should be saved. Otherwise you will have a select few places that stand the test of time but sadly I think in 10 or 15 years most of ww(at least the crest) will be all condos and townhouses. The family gets squeezed out. I hate to start sounding like our ol' buddy Robert here.

The fact that this post has already fallen down the list on the message board pretty much sums up the "regular guy" can't do anything to stop the Oceanview and others from disappearing. Even if all of us emptied our bank accounts we couldn't touch these places(unless we have some undercover millionares reading this)

I was coming up from the beach yesterday by the Oceanview and saw 3 guys walking from the direction of the parking lot at the bike rental place on the corner (I think they got out of a pickup truck that was parked there). As they passed by me near the Nesbitt Information Center I heard one guy say to the others "we don't want to draw too much attention to what we're looking at" so I turned around to watch them. They walked over to the curb across from the Oceanview and starting to pointing at it but I couldn't hear what they were saying. I did NOT like that!!! I really would hate to see this place come down but I think it may be doomed.

But...if it's doomed let it be doomed, perhaps this sounds blunt the place does not have much character anyway, I lump it in with the Grand and Pier 6600. Energy is probably better spent on trying to save some of the gems with character, rather than this beached whale.

Sure, it could use some neon signage, and maybe an aqua color scheme and plastic palms etc, but while the place isn't all that now, it has more potential than many of the smaller places. What worries me is loosing such a big place opens the door to destruction of some of the larger oceanfront motels. I'm just saying, because it is one of my favorite places, because it could be so much more than it is, if it had some caring owners. ;D However, I don't think developers would try so hard not to call attention to themselves. Maybe they were casing the joint for a robbery! haha!

sorry, DooWopper, I guess I never had much appreciation for it, it always just seemed to me as one of the ones we drove by that looked like everything else in that general area. I'll need to take a closer look.
But I guess we all have are favorites which might not be others favorites. I always had a thing for the Carousel, although I never stayed there, and now it's in Doo Wop Heaven. One of my current favorites to look at is the Starfire, never stayed there, but always liked it, cute little place, like the Winward.
I wonder if it and the Lu Fran will be going, since now with the Rio project getting sidelined, I assume noone is going to be in hurry to tear down some places with the expectation of building a high rise.
I wonder where that leaves the Oceanic (I still miss the hole in the ceiling. man, did they frig that place up with that asinine martini bar upstairs, yee gads)

You bring up a good point about the Lu Fran. Hopefully it hangs around for a while. It's a neat little place.
I agree with what you say about everyone having their favorite with places. That's another great thing about the motels, there are so many that there is bound to be one to fit everyones tastes (or at least for now)

HehHeh, no they definately didn't notice me watching them. ;D One of the things I like most about the Oceanview is the little Beach Grill/snack bar that they have at the end of the street by the entrance to the beach. With the lifeguard station on the other side of the street, it just has a very beachy feel. The longer it stays, the better IMO.

Hi all. Your thoughts fall hard on me. I am the person who bought the Lollipo and converted it to condominiums. We spent an aweful lot of money fixing up the rooms and the entire place inside and out. Unfrotuntely there is no way in the free world we would pay 18M for this property knowing what needs to be done for this process. Our money is there and if anyone knows someone at their motel, put them in touch with us. We would love to keep it up as a motel (or condotel). Keep me posted!
