Thinking of booking the last weekend in September. Has anyone ever stayed here or heard anything about the place? Thanks in advance!

Wasn't that place upgraded a few years ago? Maybe a new floor added? Or am I thinking of something else?

I believe back around '02 they added a new floor, but only with oceanfront rooms, then a year or two later they added a few more rooms behind those.

They definitly fixed up the outside. Some of the rooms have also been converted to condos I believe.

I like the way the motel looks. Isn't the Lotus the same design as the Wakiki? Or am I mistaken?
Speaking of which, did anyone ever try to compile a list of motels of the same design (i.e. the Nassau Inn and the Wakiki, the Cape Cod Inn and the Yankee Clipper)? It seems that many motels shared the same basic design.

No not really. The lotus is bigger than the Waikiki and really dose not share any other basic charchteristics other than the standard square oceanfront rooms and side common balconies. The wakiki is very similar in design to the nassau, however the roofs are completely different. The nassau has a penthouse and the waikiki has their resturaunt and other stuff on the roof with lava rocks and a wood shingled roof.

Right, but both the Nassau's penthouse and the Waikiki's restaurant were added above the fifth floors long after the buildings were built. Aside from those afterthoughts and detailing, I'm pretty sure they are basically the same building (mirrored of course, since they sit back-to-back).

Yes, I'm sure before being painted, and decorated they were clones. Same with many of the large beachfront motels that have a double next to it. There are a whole bunch, but I forget the names. I think the Ocean Holiday and it's neighbor is another example. It's amazing how decoration really sets the places apart so well.
