Totally bummed... I've been staying at this place for years now during my annual "end of August" trip to Wildwood and when I pulled up this year I saw the massive "FOR SALE" sign on it. Siiiiiigh. Another bites the dust I guess? Anyone have any information on its status?

It wont bite the dust. Its been for sale for a while now. I think who buys it will run it as a motel.

A little birdy told me someone from this board is seriously considering buying the Gold Crest and running it as a hotel.

Just to venture a guess, I suspect this will be the type that actually survives, that is, the larger, well maintained oceanfront crest properties. Once the market turns around, I would bet that the smaller motels, especially those one or two blocks in, like along Atlantic, will be history. Maybe larger ones like the Ala Mona or Sea Gull will survive, but they are not really "doo wop" by the way.

I've stayed at the Gold Crest for the past three years straight with my boyfriend. He stayed there every single summer during his childhood and young adult years so he's logged a lot more time there than I have. I used to go down as a child every summer for the Elks convention and stay at the Pan American and some other motel that has since been torn down. When we started vacationing together he asked that we try the Gold Crest and I've been a fan ever since. I think the location is phenomenal- ocean views without right-on-the-ocean prices. We always stay in the rooms facing the ocean- fantastic! The motel definitely needs some repair work though- I love sitting out on the huge sun deck but there are a lot of chips and cracks in the cement. The pool and the deck chairs are in great condition though. The rooms are definitely dated but are always nice and clean so I don't mind that the decor is not as new as it could be. I was told most of the rooms have new mattresses which is a good thing becuase they used to be stiff as a board- we brought down an egg crate this year just to make sure we had a comfy sleep! The other patrons are always friendly and nice and a lot of families stay there. I know the woman who runs the place doesn't let gusts under 21 stay in the place so that cuts down on vandalism and noise I'm sure (especially during senior week). I think it's a great place and I hope that someone does buy it and keep it going. You'll always have an annual customer with me and my family!

The Gold Crest looks like a great place and i agreee with the earlier posts, it will survive because its a big place.

The Gold Crest could probably be done up a little and become alot more unique (good for buissiness and atmosphere), and be a real happen'n and modern place. I sure hope it does not get demo'd or converted. Fortunately it's size will hopefully save it. You would have to put dozens of condos in that lot, and I don't think many people want to take that risk now, with the market cooled a little. We'll See. We need another success story already

Everybody needs to also stop and think to renavate and hold on to any place; now a days, you need money and not just a little bit anymore. If this place still does very well, then good for them. I think good advertizing really helps, too.

Suppose you're relatively new to the area of Wildwood, is there a website that advertizes all the motels--big and small-- that are located in Wildwood?
