I have never been a person to bash anyones business, however in the case of JP Prime Steakhouse, I feel I must.
For those of you who dont know, the corner of Chestnut and Olde NJ ave in NW has changed. What once was Al the steak king and a hair salon, is now the location of JP Prime steakhouse and the night club "Primetime." The owner, John Paul Paxton also ownes Juan Pablos, Paxton construction, Jp Limos, and Al The Steak King.
My best friend is a DJ who has been working at Owens Pub, and Juan Pablos, got the job at JP Prime opening night one week ago. I of couse wanted to see what it was all about, so I went over. Little did I know I would need to take out a home equity loan to buy a drink!
$7.50 for a beer! I couldnt believe it.
I got a chance to talk to Mike, the GM. I asked him "whens dollar beer night?...Ill be back then" He told me that want those people in here. I told him " im pretty sure your lost." He said what do you mean? I explained to him that wildwood isnt Avalon or Stone Harbor, and will never be, and I know no one is comming to wildwood to pay $7.50 for a beer!
I found out that after no one was in there opening weekend, they have changed the price of beer to $4.50. Gez.. big surprise there!
This place is just another example of people tring to change Wildwood. If we loose the people, we loose the island. Plain and simple.

When you make standard major league baseball prices for beer look cheap in comparison, you have clearly lost your mind.
I really think this is an example of how some are really overestimating both the short and longterm impact of the so-called "upscaling" of the Wildwoods.
I swear, after three years of rampant redevelopment, the vast majority of almost all the condo and townhouse complexes I see still look vacant.
The "upscaling" of the island is still nothing but a theory, IMO. You can change the physical landscape of an area all you want, but that guarantees nothing.

I forgot to mention he built 4 or 6 condos above the club that are all for sale. Who would want to live there?

I totally agree. Every time I go past a condo development, even the ones behind Bal Harbour, which have been there a while, there is no one around. About 3 cars around all day in a complex that could fit 20, and for sale and or rent signs all over the place. It's a very sureal feeling, being in this deserted, very sterile looking area, when your used to hearing and seeing happy tourists all around.
About the resturaunt. I saw a similar complaint on the Herald's forum. There is no large quantity of people in the Wildwoods who will spend that rediculous amount of money, and there probably never will be.

$7.50 a beer? They must think its Yankee Stadium. My wife's parents, who are from Wildwood, absolutely hated it. They know and like John Paxton but they thought it was outrageously expensive and the service was somewhat rude and obnoxious. I imagine this could have been due mostly to "grand opening bugs," plus the fact that I think they may have rushed the place a little too quickly in order to get it open for at least some of the season. And also, they opened about the same time the college kids began to leave, so what kind of a staff could they have this early, training-wise. I also think they opened the restaurant and club even before the units above it are completed, I may be wrong. Thom

The club still isnt finished, and I also heard the condos arent finished either.

At those prices, I really doubt they'll be around much longer; unless they change. Seriously, who's going to go on a vacation and blow all their money at a place like that? You look for places to save so you really can enjoy your vacation. I predict a place like that isn't going to make it.

$7.50 for a beer is crazy, no matter where.
But dude, I thought you were only 19? how'd you pull it off (much tougher these days will all the magnetic strip ID readers and such)? If you did, salute'.
Ps, those of you who know my posts know I am a pretty conservative right-winger, but I still think the drinking age should be 18, or everything else should be 21. There are alot of 18-20 year olds, past and present unfortunately, in military cemeteries across the globe, and far be it from me to tell them they can't have a drink....
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now...

Drinking, smoking and voting ages should be the same. No reason to say that people can vote on the leadership of this country but can't drink alcoholic beverages.
