Was wondering what some of everyone's favorite summer songs were - say your top five, ten, or more songs if you have any? Either songs that have "summer" as part of the title or songs that just recall past summer days from years gone by.
Heres mine:
1. Wildwood Days - Bobby Rydell (or even The Dovells) 2. Summer Song - Chad & Jeremy 3. Theme to A Summer Place - Percy Faith 4. Hot Fun In the Summertime - Sly & Family Stone 5. Surfer Girl - Beach Boys 6. Here Comes Summer - Jerry Keller 7. Summer Means Fun - Bruce & Terry 8. Vaction - Connie Francis 9. Sealed With a Kiss - Bryan Hyland 10. Strangers on the Shore - Acker Bilk
TOSS UP BONUS: Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran Summertime - Billy Stewart It's, Alright - Curtis Mayfield Now That Summer is Here - Videls

Random thoughts on some of my favorite summertime tunes...
Doo Wop Era Classics
- “Wildwood Days” (aka “Our anthem”) by Bobby Rydel will always hold a very special place in my heart. I can’t say that it is my outright favorite summer song ever, but it is definitely the most sentimental.
- “Surfin USA” and “Beach Baby” are my favorites of many, many Beach Boys tunes.
- “Summertime Blues” by Eddie Cochran was, I believe, the first song to really focus on the “hardship” aspects of summer.
- “Under the Boardwalk” by the Drifters is just an all-time seashore classic.
- “Palisades Park” by Freddy “Boom-Boom” Cannon captures the fun and excitement (not to mention the adolescent innocence) of a summer day spent at the amusement park.
“Modern Day” Favorites
- “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffet teleports us to a place that, well, we’d all like to be “stranded” at.
- “Summertime” by Will Smith... Aside from just having a really cool sound, if you were a teenager growing up in Philly during the early 90s, this song likely holds a great deal of nostalgic value.
- “Summer of 69" by Bryan Adams is just a great tune, and a pure slice of Americana-style storytelling.
- “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper said goodbye to classrooms, teachers, books and pencils and HELLO to summer!
- “4th of July” by Bruce Springsteen actually features Asbury Park as a backdrop. But the song’s beach and boardwalk references transcend the setting, and make the storyline quite applicable to the Wildwoods.

Thanks, Frank!
The name of the game with summertime songs is "fun." All of these tunes, I feel, put me in a good mood and remind me of some great times.
P.S. -- I would be remiss not to mention Otis Redding's "Sitting on a Dock of a Bayk," as choochoochuk did. What a great little diddy for a lazy, relaxing, carefree mid-summer's day!

speaking of summer music.. What you you guys do for music when vacationing in ww? Do you take down cd's (MPS'3) of listen to the local stations? We prefer to listen to the ww stations to get the 'flavor' of the shore:)

I take some oldies CD along for the car but I usually dial in some of the local radio stations by the time I hit Ocean City going down on the Parkway South...It would not feel like summer without hearing Jerry THE GEATOR Blavat over the radio in my opinion...For me THAT is the genuine true sound of Wildwood. I also love the local radio commercials for all the shore places.

Like Anthony, I take some CDs down, but switch over to the local radio stations (mostly Cool 98.3) when I get closer to the shore.
Jerry Blavat remains a huge staple of summertime at the Jersey Shore to me, even though I’m only 26. My parents grew up with the Geator (literally) and raised me on great music he still spins.
I have never been to his club, “Memories in Margate,” but I’m hoping to get there one of these days. I listen to his weekend show from that location whenever I can.
Oh, and speaking of local radio commercials... anyone else know the entire “Big Wally’s” jingle by heart? ;D

I've met the Geator on a few ocassions, and he's always seemed like a very nice, approachable guy. Someone once told me that he is really into cars, actually. Guess that's true.
