Frank, my family always had this really weird tradition, ever since I was a kid. Every year, on the first or second Saturday in February, we would all pile into the car (my parents, brother and myself), and drive down to the Wildwoods.
We would basically just make the day of it, walk the deserted boards, drive by the slumbering motels, take a stroll along the wintery beach. It was like walking around in a ghost town, especially a few years back, before the island began to take on more of a "year 'round" slant.
Anyway, the one negative was that we were always hard up for a place to eat. Usually, we would wind up finding some grub on Rio Grande Ave., or would just hit some spot on Rt. 73 on the way back up to Philly (Olga's Diner was one of our usual destinations).
Oddly enough, we only discovered A&LP about 5 years ago! As a family that had been collectively coming to the Wildwoods (and North Wildwood in particular) for well over 50 years, that probably sounds impossible. I mean, we knew that the place existed, but we had never been there, and did not know that it was open in the "offseason."
Anyway, A&LP is now our prime February destination (we stop by quite often in the summer also). Great place, awesome food (pizza, cheesesteaks, hoagies and Italian dishes), and a terrific deli as well. Plus, the people who own/run the place are really nice and pleasant to talk to.
I didn't realize that they had been there since the 50s, though! Wow, that's impressive...

I don't know if any of you remember Monzo's Restaurant (where Marie Nicole's is now), but Joe Monzo is (or at least was) the owner of A&LP, I believe with his wife. I can't remember if the business was originally in his family or his wife's.

Oh yeah. I remember Monzo's Restuarant over on Pacific Ave right across the street from popular Crest Tavern and Liquor Store. To bad they sold their business.
Before Marie Nicole's was established an Italian restaurant occupied that exact building but it only lasted for a year and was really not all that good compared to Monzo's... Although I'm sure it's probably a really good restaurant, Marie Nicole's is way too fancy for my taste...It's one of those high-end restaurants where the plates are way too big with not enough food served on them! Plus I'm not into what Marie Nicole's specializes in and that's American Contemporary cuisine (whatever the hell that is).
Across the street from Crest Tavern and Marie Nicole's (on Pacific right alongside of the old Daniels Realty building)) there also used to be a upscale nightclub and restaurant back in the late 1980s and early '90s which went under and stood abandoned for about 3-4 years. I used to walk my dog on the abandoned property and the place was really creepy- epsecially when you took a peek inside!
It was demolished around 1996 or 97 and more Diamond Beach area condos and town homes were built on the site.

I remember it too, but for some reason I can't remember the name at the moment - I agree, it was decent, but not as good as Monzo's. I can remember when pre-Monzo's it was called the Beachcomber. IIRC when it was the Beachcomber, there was a walk-up window for take-out with a big, round life-preserver around the window. I think there was a period between the Beachcomber and Monzo's when it was called Monzo's Beachcomber Restaurant.

A& LP was originally started by Linda Monzo's grandparents. Aldo and Lena Pizza, their real names. (A&LP) Linda and her husband Joe Monzo took over from her mom and dad- Jean and Ellio a few years ago. It still has the best steaks and hoagies around. They are opened year round at 15th and NJ. There is also a deli and grocery store attached to the pizza shop.
