You mean that rickety old wooden bridge?
The one you swore was going to give way (and probably would have if it wasn't replaced by the new highway) eventually?
Crossing that thing (and holding our collective breath) was yet another annual right of passage for my family.
Loved that *bump*clank*bump*clankclank*bump* rumbling sound!

It certainly was! That's funny, because we used to always refer to it as our first amusement ride of the season. When all was said and done, it was probably the scariest too.

remember it well. The new bridge and the demo of all the pier mounted homes before it really changed the look of that area.. For the worse..

that bridge was a classic. i had talked years about wildwood so i wanted my husband to see it. we stopped at wildwood for a couple days on our honeymoon 18 years ago and my husband was stunned at the sound of that bridge. i just laughed and told it was part of the tradition of "going to Wildwood".
He nows loves wildwood too!

That bridge was the official start to our vacation. We rolled down the windows as we drove across the bridge so we could smell the salt air.

Ahhhhh, I remember that bridge! We used to roll down the windows too to smell the salt air and hear the seagulls. I also remember all of those fishing shacks.

Just crabbed off the old bridge this week as they kept about 50 yards of it. Didn't catch any to keep, but still fun. Always a handfull of crabbers or fishermen on the old bridge.

the old bridge has been gone for years. I have to say that it is one of the best stories to tell about. We have people cracking up when we tell our bridge stories.

A section of the old bridge was kept. It even still has the yellow line down the middle of the asphalt. As you're leaving the island, if you make a right immediately past the road into Stone Harbor, and then make a left you go to the old bridge. On the left is Al's and on the right is the Grassy Sound Marina. The bridge was kept, maybe 50 yards, maybe a bit less, but you have to know it's there because you can't see it from the new bridge. I was just there last week. It was specifically kept for fishing. Seen some flounder caught there and last week a skate.

No offence, but I hated that bridge! Everytime I went across, I would wonder if that would be the day that dang thing finally fell apart.
