Something you may not have noticed: They changed the weight limit sign on that bridge every year. By the end, I think it was limited to 3 tons, maybe even 2. (Your standard SUV runs about 3+ tons.)
I used to commute on my bike to Stone Harbor over that bridge. One day one of the planks bounced out of its spot leaving a 6-inch gap in the bridge and a 4x6 plank across the bridge about 10 yards in front of me. I had traffic bearing down behind me and oncoming traffic, too. I thought surely I would die. I managed to "hop" the mess and was lucky to have a rare sensible driver behind me who was able to stop in time and prevent disaster. Despite this, I still have fond memories of the "Grassy Sound Bridge".

Didn't that bridge have a proper name? Does anyone know what it is?

Didn't that bridge have a proper name? Does anyone know what it is? I 'think' it might be the Grassy Sound Bridge...but it might have another name.

I think it was called the Beach Creek Bridge. I been looking at Google Earth, and I think Beach Creek is the smaller bridge before the big bridge.

Cool video, believe it or not there are still a few fishing shacks left that are visable going onto and coming off the new bridge.

Go to REPLY (not Quick Reply) and highlight the text. There should be a drop down window on the right side that says "colors".
I have a question for you, Frank... how did you add the picture under your name on the message boards?

I ventured to the old bridge yesterday. Wow! It was actually really cool and very eerie standing on the bridge. Seeing the yellow lines painted in the center and the wooden rails on the side, and still being able to look at a few of the old shacks that graced the length of the bridge. It was awesome. My friends and I got some great pics.
