I had always wondered what the exact relationship and connection between Mack’s Pizza in the Wildwoods and Mack & Manco’s Pizza in Ocean City was.
A quick check with the O.C. establishment’s website cleared everything up for me.
From http://www.mackandmancos.com…
“In Trenton in 1956 pizza, as we know it, was known as "tomato pie,” but when Anthony Mack and Vincent Manco came to Ocean City from Trenton that year they just called it pizza. Mack and Manco's opened their first pizza parlor at 918 Boardwalk in the summer of 1956. A few years later they opened another store at 7th Street and the Boardwalk.
“Mr. Mack had three sons – Dominic, Vince and Joseph – and they expanded their business to the Wildwood and Atlantic City boardwalks."
**************
Very interesting stuff.
Does anyone happen to know if the Mack brothers still operate the establishments in the Wildwoods? I assume that they still do.
Also, is there still a Mack’s Pizza in Atlantic City? I don’t believe I have ever come across one (not that I get up there too often).

I don't know much about Mack's pizza other than I LOVE their signs. So Wildwood. I've heard they have good pizza, but know nothing of their history. Now can you research the Hot Spot? (just kidding...sort of.)

Mack's 2 locations on the boardwalk in Wildwood, in my memory have had the same core people for many years. The Lady at the Wildwood Ave location has been there for over 30 years , I swear, I have no memory of that location without her. On their emplyees t-shirts, they still advertise their AC location, I think that location is also a bar?
they still have a listing on acdining.com Mack's Pizza (609) 345-2719 2641 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401

(just kidding...sort of.) Oh Eunice, you have to try it! In my opinion, you just haven’t lived until you’ve enjoyed a slice of Mack’s and an ice cold Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer while hanging out on the Boardwalk on a warm summer night. And, without question, the Mack's signs are terrific. The big "MACK'S" lettering on the establishments' marquee is consistent with the lettering on the original "MACK & MANCO'S" in Ocean City. I’ll definitely look into the history of the Hot Spot and see what I can turn up…
I know that there are/have been many incarnations of that institution on the Boardwalk (and at least one in town in Wildwood proper). The most famous, of course, is the “Original” Hot Spot, which is actually two separate restaurants located at opposite ends of the 3400 block of the Boardwalk (just north of Mariner’s Landing). Off the top of my head, I believe that Hot Spot 2 is on the Boardwalk in North Wildwood and Hot Spot 4 is at a corner location on the Boardwalk in Wildwood, a few blocks north of the “original” locations. I have no idea where Hot Spot 3 is/was. I seem to remember a Hot Spot 5 also, but I’m not sure. I might just be imagining that one. There was a short-lived restaurant/diner called Hot Spot 2000 at 4208 Atlantic Ave. in Wildwood around the turn of the century. There is another restaurant there now, with a racing car theme (though I can’t seem to remember the name of it). I’ll see what else I can find out…

Their's a place at California Ave. & the boardwalk in A.C. that is called Duke Mack's, they wear same shirts and everything. It's kind of a dive, but aren't they all "tacky treasures"?

I don't know, Tim. There's definitely quite a bit of difference between the "tacky treasures" of the Wildwoods and the many rat holes found on the A.C. Boardwalk. I don't mean to sound cruel, but I'd be surprised if half of the pizza joints there pass their annual health inspections. When I do go to A.C., there are only a handful of independent establishments I will eat at. Otherwise, I just hit the casino buffets. As for Duke Mack's, though, it sounds like a fairly reputable place. A friend/co-worker tells me that it is indeed affiliated with the Mack's chain that we are all familiar with. It's located at 2641 Boardwalk, for those interested.

I would also be remiss if I did not mention the Mack’s Pizza location in Stone Harbor. Completely forgot about that one, but it just popped into my head.
Its address is 8301 3rd Avenue.

Al, I thought in your post you asked if there was a Mack's in Atlantic City? So I answered you. Then you say you knew one was there. I don't know where you get that I was comparing Wildwood, and Atlantic City boardwalk's? I was just saying all "Mack's" were "tacky treasures" in a GOOD way. Having been to ALL THREE, I think anyone would admit this is true. SORRY TO OFFEND!

Though, I have to tell ya, it sounds like sacrilege to hear you say that Mack's makes only the second best pizza out there! How dare you! ;D (In all seriousness, though, my life is apparently not yet complete, as I have never had the chance to taste or compare a DeLorenzo's pie to Mack's. Yet another thing to add to my lengthly "to do" list.)

Having been to ALL THREE, I think anyone would admit this is true. SORRY TO OFFEND! Hey Tim, I'm sorry for the confusion, but this was probably just another case of a "message board misunderstanding." I did not previously know that there was a Mack's Pizza location/affiliate in A.C. Your reply was very helpful and appreciated, as it confirmed the existence of Duke Mack's. Between the time of your reply and my next post, I spoke to a friend/co-worker about the subject, and he brought up and described Duke Mack's to me as well. As for the "tacky treasures" thing, I just took that be a reference to pizza places "down the shore" in general. I was thinking about A.C. at that moment, so I just sort of went off on a mini-tangent about some of the rather "seedy" establishments on the Boardwalk there. Nothing more, nothing less. I did not mean to suggest that you were attempting to compare Wildwood and A.C. boardwalks and/or establishments. If it came off that way, that wasn't how it was intended. Now that I know exactly what you mean, I totally agree with your assessment of Mack's Pizza joints as "tacky treasures." We wouldn't have 'em any other way!
