I just bought the movie "going home" Filmed in wildwood in 1971. The famous actor robert mitchum and a bunch of others are in it. The movie has many amusement pier scenes and shots in the background of all those neon lights. Also the movie has a daytime boardwalk scene and a bowling alley scene. Man, I was in my glory!!!!!! Also there is many scenes shot in a tralier park and in the background you can see all the neon. Im guessing this was around rio grande ave.

Really...I had no idea there was a movie with vintage footage of the boardwalk. I'm going to seek it out! A little piece of history frozen in time. Thanks for the info.
How did you come across the film anyway?

The Movie Birdy about a soldier who comes home from war mentally scarred starring Matthew Modine and filmed by Alan Parker shows Hunts pier and they ride on the Flyer. The characters can be seen going on rides and walking on the old Hunts pier. I think the movie was filmed in 1982.

There's also the movie Touched by Robert Hays, 1981 which was filmed in Wildwood on the boardwalk. It features rare scenes of Fun Pier with the carousel, Lost World dark ride, and Castle Frankenstein with the giant Frankenstein figure on the front on the back of the pier, and Morey's with Dante's Inferno, and Sportland Pier with the Hell Hole, at night, and Nickels Midway Pier with the wooden roller coaster (torn down 1984) showing a Castle Dracula billboard along Schellenger Av. Also some shots of Morey's with Hunt's Pier in the background. I have the movie, found it on Ebay 2 years ago.

There is yet another film called THE IN CROWD that has a segment filmed on the Wildwood boardwalk...The film is a fictional piece set in the 1960s dealing with a television dance party in Philly. I think it was made sometime in the 1980s.

That one I'm familiar with and have seen many times. I think it's from 1985 or 86. It still seems to be shown on cable from time to time fairly often. The part filmed in Wildwood is on the boardwalk, and includes the bandshell. One out of place thing were people shown being pushed around the boardwalk ala Atlantic City, instead of riding on the Tram Cars. Joe Pantiliano plays a D*i*c*k Clark knockoff called Perry Parker, and the reason for the Wildwood segment in the movie is that his show is on location there. Nice movie, IMO. A coming of age type of story.
EDIT: It was from 1987 - it came on television last night and I saw the year in the credits. I caught the movie last night right around when the Wildwood segment came on. Interesting how we were just talking about this movie, and there it was last night.

I read about the movie in the wildwood book I have page 193. It says in 1971 wildwood got some national reconition by filming the movie going home in wildwood, With treating us with up to six major amusement piers at the time.So I did a search and found out that it was a real movie but was out of print!!!! I could not find it anywhere! One day it came up on e bay, a used VHS version and I said Im going to win the bidding no matter what the price is! I won and now I have it and it is a must see movie for any wildwood fan. It is just unbelievable!!!!
