There was always good wrestling shows in Wildwood. Mostly the WWF in the 70's and early 80's and then in the mid to late 80's the NWA had some shows that were pretty good with the Horseman, Manny Fernandez, The Rock and Roll Express, and Lex Luger. In the mid nineties Im pretty sure the ECW ran some shows as well.

I mostly remember the Wildwoods as a WWF stronghold in the 80s, but, you’re right, the NWA had some pretty good shows at Convention Hall during that period as well.
I was a young kid at the time, but my uncle was a huge wrestling fan. He used to tell some pretty funny stories about seeing (and in some cases interacting) with the wrestlers in town, on the Boardwalk or even at the beach when they came to the island.
I seem to remember ECW running more than once in Wildwood, but the only show date I can dig up is July 17, 1994. I’m not even sure what the venue was. The show wasn’t a major one, but it did feature some pretty big names (Jimmy Snuka, Shane Douglas, Rockin’ Rebel, Sandman, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, Tazz, etc.).

Was looking through some old things I saved and kept from the 1970s and noticed that I still had some old programs from 1977!
On August 15, 1977 the main event down here at the old Convention Hall was then legendary WWWF champion SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM against the popular CHIEF JAY STRONGBOW.
I remember the August match very clearly because it was part of a feature that took place on a really sticky Monday night. I also recall that the next day Elvis Presley died. It seems I saw WWWF champ SUPERSTAR GRAHAM again at Wildwood Convention Hall a few weeks later on September 5, 1977 - this time in a main event matched against fan favorite HIGH CHIEF PETER MAIVIA ("The Rock's" grandfather). That match is not nearly as clear in my memory for some reason.

Found another Convention Hall program this time from a WWWF event held on July 17, 1978. Feature tag-team bout was Dino Bravo and Gorilla Monsoon vs. Superstar Billy Graham and "Crazy" Luke Graham...I do recall going to that show because there was almost a riot inside and outside the hall due to the fact that a large group of drunk guys tried getting in without paying.
It seems I have a lot of old programs from those WWWF wrestling events. I recall going to a lot of them but not that many! Must be getting old...My memory seems to be fading!

I also remember the "Animal" debuting at the convention center. Then he hit it big time and was all over t.v.
He was the 'crazy' wrestler who acted and was treated as an animal, after a win he would bite the corner rope stuffing with his teach and rip out all the stuffing until it was all gone. Then he would be treated to a tootsie roll pop by his manager.
Great stuff!!! ;D
