Does anyone remember the old Wildwood Drive-in that used to be right of the parkway on Rio Grande?
If so, what movies did you see (or try to see) there? I remember going there with my cousins when we were really little. We'd go in our pajamas, seeing mostly things like Disney films and stuff like that - which I hated.
The intermissions were always the best thing for me at the drive-in. With floating hot dogs, candy, popcorn, pizza, and hamburgers that looked like burnt Brillo pads which were all available "at our snack bar."
Then there was the count down clocks which would come on and tell you however many minutes you had until the next feature - which was always geared more towards adults than kids who were already faling asleep, or should have been.
I do recall seeing THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE back in 1973 with a second feature called GOODBYE COLUMBUS or something. I also saw AMERICAN GRAFFITTI and another film called BADLANDS at the Wildwood Drive-In.
There were so many others that I'll try to remember later if I can. The Wildwood Drive-In was the first place I think I ever drove a car by myself when my younger brother (by 18 months) and I went on a double date with two pretty sisters who worked down here in the summer.
I remember those little swirly things that came in an orange and green box with a cartoon drawing of a mosquito on it...You lit it with a match and gave out an odor that was supposed to keep mosquitos away. I think they were called something like "PIC," "PIKS," or PICKS. Not sure if they worked.
