I meant they in the powers that be, the people in charge of development and planning. I understand your point, but try to understand mine, there are no powers that be. Like I said, there are 4 governments and 4 planning boards doing their individual things. Remember the saying, "Too many cooks spoil the soup?" Until there is only one planning board, there is no one in charge of what the Wildwoods are becoming - or what they will be in the future. There must be one planning board making the decisions. As for marketing, it is GWTIDAs' job to market and advertise the Wildwoods. They can only sell us to markets around the country based on what they have to work with on the island. If the island is largely populated by expensive condos - which they had no part in creating - they must market us to upscale people who can afford those condos. How can you advertise a million dollar condo to people who make slightly more than minimum wage - or less? Like I said, we are going through an uncontrolable period in our economic history. We just have to accept it and flow with the tide until it changes again. History lesson 101: In the beginning of our country, everything revolved around a rural farm society. Most people worked on farms producing food and clothing from cotton, tobacco, etc. But eventually the economy turned from a farm society to an industrial one. People moved from the farms in huge numbers into the inner cities to work in the great factories, producing the products that America needed. This is how towns like Patterson, NJ and Allentown, Pa. were born and prospered.
Eventually, society and the economy changed again and the factories shriveled up and died, along with the cities around them. No one caused it or planned it. Periods in history are influenced by a huge number of factors. They come and they go.Flow with the tide. - Thom

It wasn't me, it was my aunt and uncle and their kids (son, daughter) that went to LBI. I just couldn't understand why they switched from WW to LBI, perhaps WW was too noisy and crowded for them. They are/were in the upper income bracket, my uncle could have been classified as a "yuppie" (young urban professional as they called them in the 80's) as he worked in New York for investment firms, he was a Vice President. And, Thom, yes I am from Allentown, PA. My dad worked for Bethlehem Steel until he was killed by a car hitting him a mile from our house in Mar. 1986. Yes, Bethlehem Steel is history, the plant shut down in 1995, Beth. Steel went bankrupt in 2001, merged into ISG (International Steel Group) and finally Mittal Steel from the Netherlands bought ISG. So, now our formerly American based steel company is now foreign owned. What else is new? The US was going to sell our ports to the Middle East. And my mom thinks the condo prices at the shore are outrageous. We could never afford those prices. We have to stick to regular motels/hotels. The less motel rooms there are, the less rooms that are available for poor working class stiffs. And when I checked out other beach resorts on the web, I found that there is new condo development going on in those places, too. Examples, Ocean City, MD, Virginia Beach, VA, Myrtle Beach, SC. And amusement parks have closed or will close at some beaches, like at Panama City Beach, FL a park closed in late 2004 after 40 years of continuous operation and condos are rumored for the site. In Myrtle Beach the Pavilion Amusement Park is closing forever after this season after 50+ years. They have an excellent dark ride called the Haunted Hotel. And if you want to see development, in our area there is new construction going on everywhere. New townhomes going up, more new strip malls being built or proposed. There is a big sign next to a vacant lot a mile form my house that was once a drive-in movie theater that says "Shopping Center Coming Soon".
