This thread is inspired by the thread on the Clock Guy. Everyone please talk about famous Wildwoods personalities that were just a little bit unique, loveable, different or memorable. Just "off" enough to be remembered forever in the lore of the Wildwoods. I'll give it a start: When I worked on Jungleland on Hunts Pier in the early 80's, any of the ride operators who could spare the time would gather on the north side of the rides every day at exactly 4 pm to see this little old lady (about 80-years old) who would walk down onto the beach at Juniper Avenue with a really big serving dish covered in tin foil. She would place the plate on the sand, take off the tin foil, and step aside, watching joyfully as about a million seagulls would fly down from the top of the Flyer and Morey's Pier and pounce on the plate. It was loaded with a huge amount of spaghetti, complete with sauce. I think the seagulls must have thought it was a bunch of bloody worms or something. They knew exactly what time of day she was coming and would always show up right on time for their Italian dinner. Another favorite: Anyone remember the little old man who used to be in charge of the bathrooms at Glenwood Avenue and the boardwalk? He was really short, bald, and walked hunched-over with a limp. He wore a very old style police uniform and cap that looked like it was right out of "Car 54, Where Are You." I never knew his name, but all the local kids used to tease him and call him "Lumpy." (Wildwoods trivia: He had a featured cameo in the famous movie that was filmed in Wildwood called "Coming Home," (?) with Robert Mitchum and Jan Michael Vincent). I really miss Lumpy, he WAS Wildwood! Who do you remember? Thom

I have the movie on vhs! I going to have to watch it again. Thom, I think its called Going Home. Anyway, A wildwood famous personality to me would be "Mrs T" From Macks pizza always at the stool there on a summer night with the ciggarette in her mouth, counting out the tips for all the girls and keeping everyone in line! I think she used to own an Ice cream parlor on the boards many years ago. I think she told me that one night.

Lumpy is in the bar scene. (Look for the little guy in the police uniform that kind of looks a little like Popeye. That's Lumpy. Thom

Thom Bill and Dot from the premiere remember when robert mitchum was staying in wildwood for the filming. He would come over to the premiere which was new that year, 1971, I believe some of the cast members were staying there and he was drunk morning , day and night. Also they remember him complaining about how much he hated wildwood but he was a miserable man from what I hear, and he was drunk 24 hours a day so I dont think it had anything to do with wildwood just that he was a unhappy person! Bill from the premeiere (owner) Says that he was in the movie (1 scene) I wonder about the scene in the trailer park with the neon blinking in the background was somewhere on rio grande ave? Do you know Thom?

Thom I wonder about the scene in the trailer park with the neon blinking in the background was somewhere on rio grande ave? Do you know Thom? I don't know for sure but there are only three trailer parks that I know of that are anywhere near ANY neon signs: The one by the bridge with Gorilla George but this is iffy; the one in rio grande across from Shoprite; and the one on NW Blvd by Harbor Furniture. I'd have to look really close at the movie to find out. Another scene: the fight under the boardwalk was underneath Gateway 26 or am I confusing this scene from the other movie called "Touched" with Robert Hayes and Kathleen Beller? That one had a fight scene under the boardwalk, too, but that could have been under the 24th street side of Sportland Pier. God, these movies were a long time ago. Thom TheWildwoodsReporter.com

You're right, Countess. I completely forgot about Shawcrest. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the one in the movie, though. Thanks for reminding us - Thom

I have Touched. There is a fight scene by the old rollercoaster at Nickels and you can see a Castle Dracula sign next to the coaster. Also there's shots of Hunt's Pier from Morey's Pier, and Dante's Inferno, etc. Birdy (1984) has a scene with the Flyer in action at night.

You forget that trailer park is back there, with all the development around Lighthouse Point. Have neighbors who summer back there, they rent their condo in NWW. Prefers the trailer, says it's quieter. re

I am confused > I don't ever recall seeing a trailerpark up by th elighthouse? where exactly is it?? Flynn - I think they're talking about the lighthouse restaurant at Shawcrest, which is on the west side of the Rio grande avenue bridge. I'm pretty certain that park wasn't in the movie - Thom TheWildwoodsReporter.com

Seems 9 times out of 10 she always wore that shirt, hope she has several Mrs. "T" wouldn't be Mrs. Tauber, would she? Mrs Tauber had a french canadian accent and was part owner of Tauber's Restaurant at Oak Avenue and the boardwalk. Her and her sister, Mrs Adelman(?) were co-owners also of the old Howard Johnson's Restaurant at the mouth of the Casinio Arcade. I was a 14-year-old busboy at HoJo's. We all called Mrs. Tauber, Mrs. "T". Thom TheWildwoodsReporter.com

Thom, Don't think it's the same Mrs. T. Mack's Mrs. T doesn't have a hint of a French accent. She's been at the Wildwood Ave, shop every summer for years. Here's a link to funchase, and Mrs. T's pix almost at the bottom on the right. www.funchase.com/Images/Macks/MacksPizzaPg8.htmre
