I was surprised to see they were gone. It's still a restaurant, but is sounds like seafood. It has a shark for a logo, but I don't remember the name.

Chiarella's is now known as the Dog Tooth Bar & Grille. The bizarre logo actually features a fish with a dog's head and face.
The resturant was sold, I believe, to the owners of Kona Sports, on Rio Grande Ave.
Thom Fontannaz (JerseyDigger29) reported earlier that Mr. Chiarella had purchased the old luncheonette at the southeast corner of Glenwood and Pacific avenues, and is remodelling and expanding it.
The new restaurant will be called "GIA'S," named after his daughter Gia Chiarella, a Margaret Mace student who passed away at 13.

I'm really glad to see this restaurant coming to the St. Anns neighborhood. I was born on Magnolia Avenue and went to the original granite and marble St Anns elementary school until 3rd Grade. That neighborhood has always had an old-world, first-generation Wild Woodian flavor to it. With the exception of a few rooming houses east of Pacific Avenue it has always been a calm and peaceful part of town. Just right for fine dining. I don't know if anything is still going on at Magnolia Restaurant on the next corner. I think because of the location, it was always hard for that place to establish a loyal clientel. But Gia's at Glenwood and Pacific is basically just at the very end of the mall so a lot more traffic will gradually flow down that way, especially with DeAngelis' at Maple and Pacific. Yes, good to see fine dining coming back to a family neighborhood. Old-timers like me will remember that location from the 50's and 60's. Back then, it was called Mc Janes Luncheonette. Thom

Great post, Thom.
I've always really loved that area of Wildwood, and look forward to the opening of Mr. Chiarella's new restaurant.
Should be a great new addition.
