Thanks, Mary.
Now that you mention it, I seem to remember the Lampost being worked on last year... but not neccisarily operating (at least not as it had in the past, as a regular motel).
By the way, have you been back to this block (21st St. in North Wildwood) this year? It looks like a whole new world, with the Sans Souci and Donaraille gone, and new construction all over the place.

Talking about boarding houses - how many people stayed at the Maple Leaf? I always took the room with a private bathroom but I do remember I could have gotten it cheaper if I didnt. Rooms were cheap but you could hear everything going on in the next room

We stayed at some real dives back in the day: Mini & Mike's, The Cutlass, and worst of all The Driftwood Inn (in the Crest). We stayed in some of the better hotels as well (especially in recent years): Waikikki and Apollo. The first motel I stayed in might have been called The Wild West Motel. I don't remember anything about the rooms (I wasn't yet 2 at the time), but I remember the Teepee and Covered Wagon on its roof. I also remember that my father took me up on the roof to see them up close. I don't know if this was generally allowed, but he'd installed the HAVC system on its roof not long before, and certainly would have been granted access.

I can remember staying at older motels when I was a kid, but right off the bat, I never would remember what they were called. Great memory, michael! I'll have to look at my old photos and see if I can find anything.

I remember as a very small child in the early 70's my family stayed at a Motel call the Pink Shell. I am not to sure what street it was on but I do recall it being really close to the boardwalk. I wish my parents were still alive so I could ask them. My sister might remember since she is 3 years older than me...I will have to ask. I do remember that the pool was so tiny. ;D

I believe the Pink Shell was where Montego Bay is now. That was destroyed when Montego expanded.

The Montego bay was built sometime in the late 90's. I think 1997 or 98 it opened.

What was there before the Montego Bay? I never got up that far too much beyond the north end of the Walk.

The original beachfront section of the motel was built on a vacant lot that was used for parking. About 5 years ago the motel was expanded on the 18th st. side and the Pink Shell Motel, and several single family homes were torn down. On Ocean Avenue between 17th and 18th streets two single homes and the Tides Oceanview Motel was torn down to make way for the current indoor water park at the motel.
