Hey All,
New to the boards here, thanks to Martin for telling me about it. My family owned a house in North Wildwood and I spent every summer of my first 18 years there. I've worked at practically every seasonal job there is, daily news on the beach, rides, arcades and games.
Anyway, I'm getting ready to retire from the military after 20 years and we are moving back into the area. I'm looking for a location on an inlet or bay...anything from avalon to cape may...500,000 or less preferably...anyone know of anything?
I'm very disappointed in some of the "changes" taking place and I'd like to help in any way I can.
Regards

Welcome and best wishes on finding a place. Check out the listings at Oceanside Realty in WW. They have a few places listed around 300-400,000. There are a couple inland that aren't bad. I am currently looking for an investment offshore. Have been looking for 11 months now. Had a few good properties but not exactly what we are looking for. There was a property listed in Dennisville right off the lake. Changes are here and though very disappointing it shows an interest in the WW's. It's definately not going downhill. Loss of the Doo Wop Architecture is sad, and with that our memories. However, some of the new plans aren't that bad. Again, Welcome.

Welcome, "dogofdoom"- I also returned here after being in the military. I got discouraged with the housing market looking online at realtor sites. I finally became fed up and zig-zagged the island looking at signs. I was lucky to find a "for sale by owner" place in our price range. I would recommend this. The added advantage is that you aren't paying a realtor (who likely has a lot to do with the disappointing 'changes' you are noticing--They're not all bad, but...) I'll keep an eye out and post back if I see anything. Also, I don't know what you're work situation is, but: North Wildwood allows veterans (and only vets) to run beach concessions: ice cream, hot dog stands on JFK Blvd., etc... So if you are looking for a summer job for some cash in your pocket, call city hall: 522-2030. (I would rather lay on the beach, but I thought I'd tell you just in case you are looking.) Again, welcome! See you at the beach!

Welcome, dogofdoom!
It's great to have you aboard.
I also "grew up" in North Wildwood, spending just about all of my summers there up until I turned 21 (and many since).
What area of the town did your family live? And, out of curiousity, what were some of your favorite N. Wildwood institutions.
My favs -- Moore's Inlet and the 24th St. Motel -- are both coming down after this season, sadly. But, there are still plenty of gems left in this area of the island.
Also, just wondering, what is the origin of your screen name? Were you, by chance, in the Marines? I have a friend who is a Marine who constantly refers to himself as a "Devil Dog."
Just wondering if that, in some way, is the origin of your screen name...?

Sorry it took so long to come back (I ain't retired yet!). thanks for your feedback. Our house was in the area of 11th and Delaware in NW. Does anyone remember the Bayside Marina?
Does anyone remember a little bar called "Mary Jane's" or "Maryannes". It was around Cedar Ave about a block from the boards.
I'll post some new threads about some of the jobs and stories with them. At that age I was not really fond of "work". Especially when all of the kids were on "vacation" and I was carrying a hundred pound of newspaper on my back ;D. That was probably my favorite job though. I'd usually get off around 1:00 and have the rest of the day and night.
I'm in the Army...all marines use the term "devil dog". i'm not up on my "jarhead" history but I think it had something to do with a battle they fought and that is how the enemy described them.
My screen name is derived from lyrics in a Led Zeppelin song.
