Hello, all -
Just wanted to post a short message to let everyone know that with a little help from a friend I finally figured out how to access this forum. Quite honestly, until recently, I didn't even know the DWPL had a forum. (Because of an ad remover program - or some other gremlin - on my computer the leagues' website didn't even list a forum. And I tried, I really, really tried to find it!
Anyway, some of you may know me through my online newspaper: TheWildwoodsReporter.com. If not, I guess an introduction is in order.
My name is Thom Fontannaz and I'm editor/reporter/photographer/graphic designer/jack of all trades for the paper. (13 pages, published every single Monday for the last 23 weeks - 153,612 hits as of today). That's a lot of work for one guy, maybe that's why I don't get out much any more.
I was born and raised in the Wildwoods (WHS - Class of 1969). In the early 90's I was the Wildwoods reporter for the Wildwood Leader, after which I spent a couple of years as the public information officer/special events coordinator for the City of Wildwood. (I'm the guy that helped bring the first Monster Truck Show to the Wildwood beach).
Anyway, when I was a reporter for the Leader, it was my dream to have my OWN newspaper, a way for me to tell the whole world what a great place the Wildwoods were, without wasting any effort writing about Atlantic City or Cape May County like the other papers. The Wildwoods and nothing but the Wildwoods!
But that was before computers and the WWW. Too expensive for a poor little Wildwood boy like me. But when Al Gore invented the internet??? my dream was finally possible. Now, no one can shut me up.
I'm trying to market The Wildwoods Reporter differently than the other papers around here. Because of the power of the internet, my focus isn't just for locals. With the internet, I can report on the Wildwoods for locals, as well as anyone anywhere else in the entire world. So, anyone who has ever heard of Wildwood can read the news any time, any place - for free.
By the way, did I say that I'm producing the paper without a single penny of investment. If I can ever get the word out to enough businesses and can sell traditional advertising to them, my ambition is to advertise the Wildwoods Reporter locally, as well as on Philly 50's and 60's radio. That way, visitors can read about the Wildwoods while they're here as well as back home. The other papers only market locally, I want to tell the whole world about the Wildwoods.
Well, now that I found the forum, we can all talk about the Wildwoods. See you on the other threads.
Some short message this was, huh?
