First off, a quick "hello" to everyone!
I haven't been around much of late, as I've been buried under an avalanche of freelance work, and have been traveling quite a bit lately.
But, this forum, my friends here and the Wildwoods in general are always on my mind. I miss everyone here, and I can't wait to get back to contributing more in the very near future! That said, let's all wish a very "Happy Birthday" to the DWPL message board itself, which was inaugurated one year ago tonight. I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it -- The people I've met here, the friendships I've made, the knowledge I've gained on the Wildwoods, the ability to have a place to come to talk about the Wildwoods... well, I just don't know what I would do without it. In a way, it's difficult to imagine that it's only been a year since this forum was created. But, I just wanted to thank Mike D. and the DWPL for making it happen, and for everyone here for making it work. We've had some ups and downs in Year #1, and, naturally, the subject matter often tends to be a bit on the depressing side (a given, considering all that has happened in the Wildwoods over the past few years). But, for me, our conversations here have helped soften the blow of the rapid change the island has endured. It has also, perhaps most essentially, helped this hopeless nut attain his "Wildwood fix," even during the long, cold days of winter where days on the beach and nights on the Boardwalk seem so distant. Thanks again to everyone, and here's hoping for a great Year #2, and lots of growth and continued success for this forum in the future in general! WILDWOOD, BABY............... YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Congrats to both hulk and video on the recent and soon-to-be additions, respectively!
My son just turned 2 on January 18th.
I could not wait to take him down for his first trip to the Wildwoods two summers ago. And, as he's gotten older, the experience is getting better and better.
My wife and I took our last daytrip down in mid November, and we just let the little guy run wild on the near-empty Boardwalk. He loved it, as you can probably imagine.
But, I have to tell you, the look of pure excitement in his wide open eyes that first time we took him up on the Boardwalk at night on Memorial Weekend '04 was awesome.
When you get that feeling of pride, the ability to pass that special Wildwoods tradition on to your own kids... wow. Others here will back me up on this -- it's amazing.
You guys are going to have a blast this summer, and have great things to look forward to in the future. I can't wait until my son is old enough to ride the amusements with me, and partake in many of the other wonders of the island.
Well, OK, I can wait. I don't want to rush anything. Enjoy them while they're small, because they grow up FAST!

Thanks Al---I'm looking forward to it big time. It's funny I remember after my first trip to WW---every year we'd get more of our friends and family to join us and that look of amazement was shown on everyone's face. And yes riding the rides together will come soon enough!!

Happy Birthday!
I am so glad this forum exists. I have learned much, reminisced often, vented from time to time, but mostly enjoyed knowing that there are other "nuts" (as Al calls us) out there that share the same passion for the Doo Wop island.

But it's too bad your young kids will never know Wildwood the way it was, take them to the Museum. Show them Castle Dracula and Hunt's Pier. Show them where old motels used to be where condos now stand. You know Anthony built some great models of Golden Nugget, Whacky Shack, and Castle Dracula that are on display at the museum. Hopefully your kids will be able to ride the Nugget soon if it reopens. Zombie World and Dante's might be a bit too scary for 2-4 year olds. It's too bad the Castle's Dungeon boat ride is no longer around, your kids would have had nightmares from that. My mom was scared to death on it. Hey, Al and others, you can always show your kids the old WW on websites. funchase.com mrboardwalk.net darkinthepark.com and more. They may tear down our memories, but they can't tear down our memories in our minds.
