Well, thanks, Hulk and Mike, for brightening up what was basically just another crappy day at the office Happy birthday Kathy, I had no idea you were a day after me. Yeah, Hulk, I got a kick out of seeing your handle pop up on the birthday line yesterday. I've known very few other Libra-cusp Scorpios, so I guess we must be a rare and special breed ;D

Kathi, what's up with all the for sale signs on apartments? It looks like another auction, too. Does that mean more demos of older buildings for new ones? You can tell by the materials and architecture what era a house or building is from, such as awnings over doorways and wrought iron railings indicate 50's, 60's, or 70's construction. New construction is so bland and modern compared to the old. And it appears there are still Nickels Midway Pier signs by Kohr Bros., are they still in business? They don't have the rides or castle dracula anymore. And the Nugget appears to still be standing in one piece. If they don't reopen it so help me God I'll buy it and reopen it myself!! Alot of the places that I remember are still there like they were, Kelly's Cafe, Sea Shell Ice Cream, and more. So while it seemed like a lot was lost in four years, there's still a lot left in terms of neon and doo-wop. But, there have been a lot of changes since my last visit, June 98. It would take a whole page to list them all.

It would take a whole page to list them all. Well, Kathi...? ;D Oh, shhhhhh, Al... be nice Some of your references are to images in my slide shows, I think, Robert? The ones of the apartment houses with the for-sale signs were taken in central Wildwood, I think mostly on Montgomery Ave. I just took those shots because they fit in thematically with what was on my mind in September. And because, like you, I love the look of the old places, like that sweet little one called Hazel's. There were a fair number of for-sale signs on older, shopworn buildings in town, though. I thought the one on the place called "Pot o' Gold" was kind of funny in a sad way. I'm sure that for whoever owns that building, the pot is not so fat as it was a few years ago. But a lot of owners down there must still be hoping to take advantage of increased interest in shore properties. Wildre has mentioned that owners all around the island routinely put for-sale signs up as soon as the summer season is over. Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes kind of thing, I guess. Hopefully the recent high tide of buying, selling and demolition in the Wildwoods has receded with the overall cooling off of the residential real estate market. All I know is, if I had a crystal ball I'd have tried to buy something down there in the late '90s... maybe one of the Atlantis condos.
