Does anyone out there know of any good websites about atlantic city? I'd like to research there motels/rides/and old boardwalk attractions too. I'd like to compare it's heyday with Wildwood's. Any info would be useful. I'm trying to find out if AC ever had any dark rides.

My family use to go there every year when I was a kid. I do remember a dark "pirate type ride" that had a big pirate out front. It was on the old "Million Dollar Pier" down by convention hall. I believe there was also another ride on the old Steeplechase Pier that was similar to the Golden Nugget ride.

There's a site with pictures of some of the AC dark rides, it's tunneloflaffs.com in the Bill Tracy article. Here www.elvision.com/tunneloflaffs/piratescove/pc5.html Ocean City, MD has some neat old dark rides and walk-throughs. Two of them are Bill Tracy classics from the 60's, Haunted House and Pirate's Cove. Also, on page 4 there's the old entrance to Dorney Park and the Journey to the Center of the Earth. That is my hometown park and I grew up with the old rides. Those SOB's from Ohio, Cedar Fair (Point) destroyed them after their acquisition of the park. Some park owners don't have a heart. If they're a new owner, and not from the local area they could care less about preserving the park's history unlike the former family owners who were from the local area and understood the importance of preserving the history.. Don't they realize that Bill Tracy dark rides are irreplaceable? Most of them were custom built or created from existing dark rides. I'm sure the new owners of Hunt's (before Morey's) didn't realize that, either.

I appreciate the sites. It seems maybe AC might be the new neon and color haven for the jersey shore. Maybe picking up where the WW motels left off. AC will never be WW [definitley lacks the WW magic], but I know no one's ever going to tear down a 50 story tall multi billion dollar casino for condo's!
