I’ve always been enamored with things that light up the night sky – neon signs, lightning and (oh, yeah!) Christmas lights!
This time of year, I’m always on the lookout for the best decorations and light displays in the area. Does anyone have any particular favorites to share?
I live in Philadelphia, but am readily willing to travel virtually anywhere within the region to check out a worthwhile display.
I will post some of my favorites, if anyone else is interested…

Channel 3 had a holiday special over the weekend. Their website has a slideshow and gives the locations (for the most part). kyw.com/slideshows/local_slideshow_333071534/view?slide=0I am not sure if they still have it, but there was another house in Huntingdon Valley that we nicknamed "the Griswold house" after National Lapoon's Christmas Vacation. The ENTIRE house was covered in lights. Hunt. Valley is usually a nice area. Also, South Philadelphians go all out. And, the NE section of Morell Park is always a Christmas wonderland.
A few years ago, Core Creek Park had a drive through display. Locals complained about the traffic, so they no longer host it. Did you ever get to see it?
I highly recommend taking a trip to Peddlers Village - they have a million lights and an amazing gingerbread house contest. Plus, hot chocolate. It is a family tradition of ours and always a nice night.

That place is cool! We went there a few years ago! Would love to go back! The best part is when you drive to the top of the hill and you see it for the first time!!! WOW! I miss the one they used to have at Core Creek Park - that was nice. Last year we went to the Christmas Candyland in Hershey.

There's a house in North Wilmington off of 495 that is all decorated and has Santa outside giving out candy canes, always has a huge turn out every night. This guy starts in mid October putting up his decorations.
