I jsut got back from Wildwood last week and I just can't stop raving about this little restaurant! I highly recommend it to everyone. I saw it on local access channel 13 (the one where they show all the fabulous food being made- ahhh could watch that channel forever!) and my boyfriend and I tried it out. We were a little sketched out at first because it is above a liquor store but it was great! I thought the place was new but someone told me they thought that it has been there for a few years now. I recommend the seafood cheese tortellini with crab sauce- it was TO DIE FOR! Anyone else have some restaurant suggestions? I always like to try new places. I usually hit the biggies like Uries and Ravioli House but am always on the look out for smaller places with great fare!

First off, welcome to the forum, rowrow!
I don't think I've every heard of Crab Island, to tell you the truth. Where exactly is this located? I'd definitely like to give it a shot.
There are a lot of great, smaller places with great food in the Wildwoods, but my favorite is probably Kelly's Cafe, at 4400 Atlantic Ave.
Great food, sandwich and drink specials, and a really cool, "classic Wildwood" atmosphere to boot!

I was there last week too but not for the food, we needed beer. We actually walked through the restaurant to get the the liquor store. Seemed a bit small but some times the little places can have the best food. In Philly some of the best food is bar food.

Yeah it's an odd set up- a little misleading. The restaurant is not as small as you think. The main resturant is actually upstairs- there's also a nice outside eating area/deck as well. The downstairs area with the bar and a few pub tables shares the space with the liquor store. I could see how people might walk through there and think that's it but there really is more to it up the stairs!

I believe Crab Island is owned - or was, I'm not sure - by the same family who have the grocery store at Juniper and Atlantic Avenue. - uh, Karter, I think. I think Crab Island was one of the first new businesses to be built around the beginning of the demo trend, although it obviously has nothing to do with lost hotels, of course. This one business would be a great example to talk about in regard to "upscaling the Wildwoods." For those who are old enough to remember, the location began as a really old and decrepit gas station with leaky tanks. It was then rented by a guy who traded in WWII war surplus: Nazi helmuts, bayonets, grenades and bazookas, etc. Talk about a really seedy joint. It was like "Sanford and Son" on Army steroids or something. Can't we all agree that, at least with this one example, upscaling the Wildwoods is mostly a good thing? Thom

Crab Island is one of those restaurants where you feel comfortable while there and glad you went after you're done. I am a beer guy and really put the serving staff thru the paces since the bar is downstairs and we always sit upstairs near the windows...the deck is too hot with a great view of the Super Fresh parking lot. With a little thought they might have turned that deck the other way and caught some magnificant WW sunsets!

Hey Rowrow, Don't write off Tony's...can't believe they have a Prime Rib Dinner Special on FRIDAY AND SAT nights! Also, my favorite place in the WW's: ALFE's Of course, for Pub Grub you can't beat Owen's on 17th Street. Then there's Nino's (formerly The Trangle). Super Family Restaurant (BYOB) Hope I was of some help.
