Hello everyone. Just wanted to share some thoughts and memories. First, I think the development of condo's is a shame. I understand its business, and it's all about money, but it really sucks.
I love wildwood, and I get excited thinking about going every year. As a child I started going to WW in 1976 and have continued with my family till this day. I like wildwood because, for a moment in time, it was a time warp. If I didn't look in the mirror, and just walked around I could swear I was 10 again. Nothing ever changed, and I loved wildwood for those reasons.
My mother passed away in the mid 80's and I loved the fact that we shared some great times there.
Wildwood was a place that I could go and fondly think of her and the times we had. I went again last year, and little by little my memories are going. I remember as a young boy, coming home late at night with my family after a full night on the boardwalk. My Dad would play the spinning wheel all night trying to win toasters, radios, and lp's for me. God, remember when the games only cost 25 cents? Not $1.50? Driving down Atlantic, seeing all the retro motels light up the sky at night. It was great. I could go on and on, but I guess everyone has similar experiences, so you get the picture. I'm still can't believe the boardwalk mall is still open after all these years.
Anyway, one thing that really annoys me is all this talk about helping out. Last year I went to the Doo Wop historical society, and it took me 3 days and many attempts to get in. The man who ran it, didn't even want me in, and wouldn't even put the lights on for me to view the vintage material. He had many items that I would have purchased, but he didn't seem into it. He pushed alot of people out of the building.
If anyone cares about the woods like I do, I am willing to run an auction to raise money for restoration and overall appearance. I own a memorabilia company for over 12 years, and I do private signings with pro atheletes and celebrites. I would be willing to donate up to $10,000 in merchandise to sell at a fundraiser. I would also like to buy some vintage radios, boomarang tables, etc that he had as well. If anyone would like to get some ideas together, let me know..
Best,
Patrick
