Hi all! I'm new to this message board. I just returned from Wildwood the other and have a few questions??? I haven't been there for least 5 years. When did all the construction start? I noticed that there are hardly any hotels/motels in North Wildwood and Wildwood. We stayed in Wildwood Crest this time. It seems like the town has been wiped out. Also, it didn't seem like Wildwood was as busy as it had been in the past. Has the tourism been affected by the new construction?
Also anyone knw about the cute little shop that was located in N. Wildwood that sold lots of personalized stuff (Christmas ornaments, home decor)?? How long ago did that leave? It was on of my favorite stores to visit? I think it was underneath the Yellow hotel (can't remember the name)...near Little Nicky's Pizza.
Thanks for your help! Tara

The construction seemed to start around 2002-2003, but the worst off-season for the Crest was after 2004, going into 2005. North Wildwood's worst demolition phase was more over this past off-season...
Welcome!

I believe it was called Personally Yours? It was the cute shop in Montego Bay. Their lease wasn't renewed, due to the expansion of Adam's and the ice cream/hot dog shop over the winter 2004/05. To my knowledge they left the area. I think they have another shop at a Mall in Delaware?

I enjoyed those stores also and was bummed to see last year that they were not there anymore. At least is saved me some money

To Tara, wildwoodkid, yes, WW has definately changed since you were there last. Heck, I wasn't there since 1998. What happened is all of a sudden, post-9-11, developers began offering millions of dollars to motel owners to pressure them to sell and retire so that the developer could buy up the property (land more valuable than what's on it) and demolish the motel and build shiny new vinyl multi-family condominiums that do not have the character of the motels and other buildings they replaced and the prices for the condos are ridiculous. This has happened about a hundred+ times so far and more this year. Also, longtime attractions, landmarks dissapeared such as Castle Dracula which burned Jan 2002, it originally opened 1977, see www.darkinthepark.com and the old Hunt movie theaters near the former Castle area came down, the Casino in 1999 and the Shore 4 in 2006. The Golden Nugget Mine Ride on former Hunt's Pier (1957-1985 also 1986-1990) more recently Dinosaur Beach (1996-1998) hasn't ran since the 98 season. The Morey's bought the pier in 1999 and have no amusement plans for it. Vince Kostek former Hunt's Pier manager from opening in 1957 to fall 1985 when Bud Hunt sold it, passed away recently on June, 11. There have been more changes in the past 5 years than the entire 90's or 80's for that matter. Well, most of the changes in the 80's and 90's were on the amusement piers. Now, the amusement piers are basically the same and the changes are occuring in the towns themselves. I believe the downturn in visitors is due to the lack of motel rooms like there were pre-9-11. Not everyone can afford a condo with the way prices are. Only the uber rich wealthy snobs can afford one. Most ofthe NWW motels were wiped out recently within the past year or two for new condo construction. The Packard, Thunderbird Inn, 24th St., Lurae, all gone and more. Alot of the smaller motels in the crest inland were wiped out for new condos, too.

Welcome back Robert, I have not seen any posts from you in the last few days. Oh, by the way the doctor said to take the blue pill on Wednesday.
