Thanks for posting, re... and thank you Thom, for reporting. ;D
Well, it's good to see that the city of North Wildwood is at least exploring ideas such as this. I don't think extending the height limits in these areas is a bad idea at all... though, I was initially expecting to see more new "highrise" development along JFK Blvd.
What do you think of this re?

Al, if you noticed, the new TRR zone will not affect JFK. I think it's interesting that the new zone extends the entire length of the NW boardwalk (15th to 26th). I mentioned earlier about how I thought the city was trying to improve the NW section of the boardwalk. With bigger hotels hopefully being created along the boardwalk zone, this also ties in with the upcoming redevelopment of Seaport Village Pier. It all seems inter-related. Now, we can start a new game of trying to think which blocks a hotel can be built on, keeping in mind that many of the new condo projects along the side streets probably won't be torn down. (??). How much space is actually available in the TRR Zone with all the new condos. Maybe some of the new hotels will have to be built directly on the west side of the boardwalk itself, like Montgego Bay. Yeah, the fact that the TRR zone does not (at least not yet) affect JFK is what struck me first. That area, to me, seems ripe for the “highrise” treatment.
Though, you make a great point in noting what the city of NW is trying to do along the area that encompasses and runs along their portion of the Boardwalk.
I’m glad to see that there seems to be some sort of “vision,” some sort of master plan in all of this, with the related re-development of the Seaport Village pier and such.
It would seem to me that there are many possibilities for new, fresh development projects along the NW Boardwalk, specifically north of 26th Street. Like you said, let the guessing game begin… but this is definitely a situation that will command our attention for some time to come.

What do you think of this re? They have to do something to compete with the proposed high-rises of Wildwood and to a lesser extent WC. However the beach is very delicate from 18th all along JFK. I realize we're in for some major beach replenishment projects come this Fall however I think they have to tread softly, we can't jeopardize what beach we have left to build on. Any shift of sand or new pilings could have an adverse effect on the beaches on the entire island. It appears they are attempting to contain this high rise development within the Boardwalk area, leaving other areas alone(for now). I can see the possibility of several motels being casualties, like the Oceanside, Condor, and maybe the Matador? I just can't take another nasty mustard yellow cement wall like Montego Bay put up. May have answered our questions regarding the Brigadoon Motel on Ocean, they may just be lying in wait for this approval? This is the talk of my hood, no one even has a clue why it's just sitting...no rumors, nothing regarding what the future holds for that Motel. Thoms so right, there are lots of brand new hi end condo's on the numbered streets on the eastside of Ocean and Surf. re

North Wildwood doesn't really compete with anything or anyone, they tend to do things their own way and ignore the rest of the island. North Wildwood has always been isolationist. They're in their own little world there. Same thing with the Crest. What North Wildwood cannot ignore, though, and what I think they are trying desperately to do, is just replace all those hotel rooms they lost. I guess they woke up one day and realized that even if they ARE in their own little world at the north end of the island, they still need tourists to fill their night clubs and restaurants. And they can't do that unless they get some more hotels. Thom

Thom when I said compete I meant for lodging $$$. I realize they are trying to replace the motels that have been lost, with this TRR plan. They've finally realized they're losing revenue, with these rooms gone. Heck the parades don't even come down Surf anymore!
