The boardwalk was PACKED when I was there, even around 10pm. I think we all feel his pain though. When it will start getting through the thick heads of the officials of the town, I don't know, maybe never. Quitting the town dose not help either though. Patronizing a doo-wop motel is somthng good anyone can do, there is still plenty of action in the strip in the Crest. It's such a shame though. If the town's officials just zoned off the motel district, and gave some incentives for renovating/expanding, the town could be going through a (more productive) rebirth. Hopefully the bad housing market will spare us some pain this winter and leave us with as many motels as possible.

Certainly nothing new in the writer's lament. But I thought it was timely, because his pain is specifically focused on North Wildwood, which is the disaster du jour, unfortunately.
Also thought his comments comparing the situation with that of Ocean City, Maryland, were appropriately sharp. I found the letter while hunting (fruitlessly) for some new info about the Grand Hotel. I have no idea how many letters like this the Leader has published to date, since I didn't realize I could read it online until (of course) I found a link on this board a few weeks ago. I hope they take every opportunity to air this type of complaint, because it will encourage like-minded folks to speak out and, perhaps, draw the attention of those officials and other influential individuals who do give a rat's rear about something other than the almighty dollar (and perhaps specifically the insides of their own pockets...).

The guy did hit on one key point. Many others do feel like him but just are not saying anything.

The guy's a bit melodramatic. Even with all the changes, WW is not that bad to never want to go there again! He sounds like a big bellyacher to me.
And like CV said in a thread yesterday, some places indeed needed to be "put out of their misery" anyway.

And remember what Billy Joel says, "the good old days weren't always good and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems." holy sh-t!!!! I almost quoted that earlier today in a post! It's true. My dad, for example, does not have alot of great memories from the 50's, it was right after he got out of the service, and he was working every sh=t job known to man until he settled into his career. To him, the best times have been since he retired 15 years ago.

I can understand where he's coming from, though. When you have alot of memories from a certain period or area, it does upset you a little. I wouldn't go as far to say I'd never go back there again; now Atlantic City I could say that because that did almost a 100% renovation. To me NOTHING there now reminds me of the way it used to be. It was like being in another world. But I understand how fuzzyscorpio feels; somehow, everything is just not the same anymore; which, of course it isn't. So try to accept it and move on, I guess.

i will say i have to agree with some of it but when did he go to the shore cause i know for a fact that when me and my hubby went down a few weeks ago it was packed all the resturants the boards the shops the beach everything was packed and yes as i walked down surf to 26th street my stomach did do some flipping and flopping but thats only because when i got to the place where i spent many summer's as a kid and young adult and saw condo's there i got sad and nostalgic but who doesn't when there fav place is gone hell i still get nostalgic when i see CBP or Citizen Bank Park and think of my first time at Veteren Stadium. But as for leaving the Woods cause of the new places being built its wrong i'm certainly not going to stop going cause of these condo's there nice places yes some of the families won't be able to afford them thats not going to stop them there are still nice places to stay.

The guy who wrote this reminds me of a post I happened to come across on this board a while ago.
Being relatively new (6 months) to the board, from time to time I might take a look at the posts of some members that used to post alot, but for some reason stopped posting. I ran across some guy (I don't remember his name) who spewed and spewed all of this sanctimonious nonsense, then one day gave some kind of farewell speech, something like "I've tried and I've tried, and I just can't change things, I wish you all the best".
huh? sorry if this sounds blunt, but this type of philosophy sounds a bit silly to me. weak victim mentality. My feelings are, if you want to go to WW, then go, and if not, then don't. Yes, it's interesting sometimes to hear why people cut their ties with the place, but like I've said before, the place is not that bad, even with all the changes. I would say it is probably still about 60% or so of exactly the way it was when I started coming in '69 -- more like 85% if you take into account all of the old houses that are still there. Some of the places we stayed at in the old days are now gone or have fallen into disrepair, and our tastes and needs have changed a bit as well. So what, find another place to stay in WW and move on. In my mind, certainly not a reason to forfeit going there.

Look around at ANY beach resort; where DON'T you see condos and beautiful new motels? I went back to Ocean City, Maryland, after just a year or 2 and I almost passed out when I saw all the new condos and motels they built! And they're STILL building. That's still not going to stop me from going to a place with alot of memories and that I enjoy.

There will always be change. We don't like it because it takes away the past, our youth. I remember watching as new motels were built in the 60's and being angry and sad that the little dunes I played in for hours were gone. I always listened to my father and grandparents talk about the changes that the ww's went through from the 1930's on. THEY NEVER STOPPED GOING and my father, at 77, still treasures his trips to ww with his children and grandchildren every year. My grandparents loved it so much they made it their permanent residence in the early 50's. I quite certain that if they were alive today they would still be there with their family around them each summer.
