I just saw on channel 6 Action News that Ernesto hit the beaches hard. A building under renovation in WW was destroyed, was it a motel? I wonder how Morey's made out? And the Golden Nugget?

The Golden Nugget landed in Kansas, I think. So much for that once-proposed move to Mariner's.

I just saw on channel 6 Action News that Ernesto hit the beaches hard. A building under renovation in WW was destroyed, was it a motel? I am pleased to report that according to the Philadelphia NBC affiliate, it was not a motel but "a three story condominium under construction in North Wildwood" that was knocked down. Which, considering what we've heard about the caliber of typical Wildwoods condo construction, should come as no surprise It also says Route 47 was (is?) closed. wcau.nbcweatherplus.com/weathernews/9435438/detail.htmlThe Golden Nugget landed in Kansas, I think. So much for that once-proposed move to Mariner's. Al Alven, you are a big meanie-head.

All of southern jersey was pounded from what I understand. I hope some condos got roughed up in the storm.

Al Alven, you are a big meanie-head. I am. ;D In all seriousness, though, it really does look like the coast is taking quite a pounding tonight, and I'm glad that we haven't heard any reports of serious injuries, or other problems like that. As for the condos, well, I don't wish ill will or property damage on anyone, but it's just a simple fact that so many of the structures that have gone up quickly in the Wildwoods over the past few years are cheaply built, and are not made to withstand this type of environment. I imagine we're going to hear plenty of stories about heavy damage to structures like these now and in the near future.

Ok story. Im delivering tonight to a regular on Maple and Park. All of a sudden, just a few houses away we hear a huge booom! We both look as the entire place came crashing down. It was amazing! Oh and by the way...sorry condo bashers, this was a renavation in progress. An old house, gutted and in the process of being raized up a story. Lawsuit. A truck and a few cars we burried as the house came down.
As for the city of Wildwood. If we ever get a major storm here, kiss it good by. Just about every road had water built up and streets like Delaware, New York, Park, Marina district...all had 2ft of water on them. Impassable for most. I almost couldnt get through in my 4x4 truck! Rio Grande ave was blocked off at ocean, atlantic, and pacfic. It was a good thing tonight wasnt a full moon or it would have been worse.
I find it weird the alot of the flooding problems are around the base of the bridges. If we ever are in a need to get off the island for a major storm, that will be a major problem.

..and that water is cold!!! SoI get off work at 10:00pm and we all (the five of us from CVS) hop in a fellow worker's car for rides home. We couldn't get within a block of my house...two feet of water. So me and the guy that lives across the street hop out at Green's and walk...er...wade to our street(Bennett). Got soaked up just above my knees. Get home, get all dry, and CVS Sercurity calles...the alarm is going off at work. ME being the closest with a key had to wade back to Park and meet the police. We got the door locked again(The wind just blew the thing open) and the cop pushed on it and it popped open again. Locked it up and we both crossed our fingers. I wade back home and settle down...for about a half hour when the dang phone rings again...the doors blew open again...so back I go. This time the police met me about halfway to the stor, sadly after I had already waded through just over two feet of water on Pacific Ave. We get the stupid door closed again and this time the second cop on scene asked me if I wanted a ride home. He brought me up the wrong way on Bennet so he wouldn't get the car stalled. Thank You, Mr. Policeman!!! He told me about the house that fell down, the KFC sign that blew away, the car with a live electric line across it, and three fires that were burning(small ones, it seems) I have not got a new call yet...but it's still howling out there...and there is still plenty of water on my street.
I really don't remember this much water from other storms! I know, from just living near Pacific Ave. that it gets deep right at Rio Grande, but this was amazing. The water at the curb at Pacific and Bennet was well over my knees. ...and quite chilly.

We've been looking at that house raising for many months and wondered just how they were allowed to do that with it being so close to the street and the business next to it. It was at least a hundred years old, a three story apt. house that can be seen on that panoramic wall photo in the Boyer Museum. Its the only building on the block at that time. Recently they added the extra cinder block ground floor. It was waaayyyy up there, looming like some mad experiment. The flooding is a continual problem. The upper reaches of WW Crest inland and of course the NW beach are real issues now as well.

Montego Bay lost part of their roof. it fell onto park cars in the parking lot. The wind has really been incredible. Think we lost more beach here in NWW. Anisha hope you didn't get called out again, it was a really nasty night.

We keep thinking how lucky we were that we went a week earlier than we usually do. We would have been there this week and we were staying in a hotel that was on the beach with no street in between in NW. I can't imagine what beach could be gone since it wasn't a long walk. I guess we'll have to wait for some photos. I can't believe about the Montego Bay. Hope everyone stays safe down there.

Wow, then the north is actually getting hit harder than the south? Because it pretty much breezed by South Carolina. So it must have gotten worse then?
