To all - It was announced officially today that Wildwood Commissioner and former Mayor Fred Wager, who was in his seventies, has passed away. Commissioner Wager has been ill for some time and has been undergoing medical treatment, but until today, the name of his illness or condition had not been released officially. Media sources today (Saturday) reported that Commissioner Wager's illness was Multiple Myaloma. Prior to today, Mayor Ernie Troiano had said that Wager's seat on the city's three member commission would not have to be filled while Wager was in the hospital. But with the commissioner's passing, a replacement will most likely have to be named to fill his seat until the next election. Further details will follow when they become available. Thom

He was certainly a colorful addtional to the local political scene.
He was a member of city council for the past 12 years, and had been mayor for four of them. During his mayoral term, he attempted unsuccessfully to get an Indian casino, operated by the Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma, on city land to bolster local employment and revenues. He also boosted the city by supporting such off-season tourism attractions as the Oktoberfest and rodeo on the beach. A Navy veteran of World War II, Wager was a member of American Legion Post 184, Wildwood, and VFW Post 3509 of Wildwood. Surviving are his wife, Ethel (nee Taylor) Wager; three daughters, Susan Beaulieu, Diane McCarthy and Kristine Farabee; 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a sister Jean Blunt. Services will be Oct. 4 at Ingersoll-Greenwood Funeral Home, 1201 Central Ave., North Wildwood. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home. Interment will be Oct. 5 at Whitemarsh Memorial Park Mausoleum, Ambler, Pa.
