Wildwood
Awards reception set
Main Street Wildwood, the downtown revitalization organization, will hold its Annual Awards Reception starting with a social time at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Juan Pablo's Margarita Bar, 3801 Pacific Avenue in Wildwood. Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.
The Awards Dinner will recognize exemplary volunteer efforts and outstanding business achievements over the past year with a focus on the Wildwoods' traditional downtown commercial district. Awards will include Business of the Year and Outstanding Downtown Renovation and awards to show appreciation for exceptional efforts to promote and beautify downtown Wildwood.
In addition to the annual business-oriented honors, the Peter Holcombe Memorial Community Service Award will be given to Carl Groon, mayor of Wildwood Crest and owner of Green's Liquors. The Holcombe award, named in honor of Main Street Wildwood founding member Pete Holcombe, is given annually to the person who best exemplifies Holcombe's public service spirit and tireless efforts to improve the Wildwood island community. Groon has worked behind the scenes for many years, donating his time and resources to benefit all the Wildwoods.
Ocean Property Management Corporation will be receiving the Business of the Year award. Several years ago, the company became one of the first businesses to relocate to Pacific Avenue in Wildwood and helping start the revitalization that continues to this day. Gia Ristorante is being honored as the Outstanding Downtown Renovation for their transformation of a storefront at 3301 Pacific Ave.
Joe Montello, owner of La Piazza Cucina at 4600 Pacific Ave., will receive a special award for his outstanding efforts to promote Pacific Avenue and all of Wildwood. The Sea Theater at 4005 Pacific Ave. will receive the Community Betterment Award.
Two other special volunteer awards will be announced at the reception.
