Hey Janet,
I exchanged e-mails with Dino Fazio of Morey's Piers a few days ago, and he seemed thrilled with the volume and quality of the e-mails and letters he's received regarding the Golden Nugget over the past few weeks.
I believe we are all DEFINITELY making a difference in bringing the resoration of this great ride closer to reality. I've been keeping a rough count of people who I know have written in and -- counting folks from this board who I've heard from and my family/friends -- I know that AT LEAST 30 letters have been sent of late.
That's pretty good... if we can keep the barrage going steadily over a period of time, things are really going to shake out well. I think it's also important to let Morey's Piers know that we all miss the old-style attractions, dark rides and like, in general. Good things are on the horizon, I believe.
As for me, I don't really write steadily for any one newspaper these days; I mostly do freelance stuff. I used to be a staffer for the Catholic Standard & Times here in Philly, right out of college (graduated in '01 from La Salle University).
These days, I mostly contribute for various hockey and baseball-related publications, newsletters, websites, etc., and do a little "reporting" for local, neighborhood newspapers on the side.
I haven't really had much of a chance to write about Wildwood in my career, so that is a specific goal for me now and in the future.

I would like to see Dr. Blood's House of Horror restored as well, if possible and/or a new dark ride on Sportland.

I'd love to see that as well, Robert, but I would imagine that the Dr. Blood's ride is far beyond repair at this point. I can't say for sure, after all, I'm no expert on these things. But, the ride has been sitting there for about 20 years now, just withering away.
I'm surprised there is anything left of it now, to tell you the truth. I would love to walk around on the inside, just to experience it, see what it looks like. Fittingly enough, the structure itself is a tomb of sorts, encasing many memories of a past era in the Wildwoods.
As for a new dark ride on Sportland, I guess the question is, would the current owner view it as something that could be profitable. I would have to think that there is a reason why dark rides in general have been phased out (just about everywhere, not just in Wildwood) in recent years.
Perhaps, they will make a comeback, I don't know. I hope they do. But, right now, the owner of Sportland seems to be making out well with his go-cart operation, the arcade and, uh, I guess with Bozo still hangin' out there, spewing his venom at passers-by.
Sportland Pier is pretty much dead, as far as being an active amusement pier. Obviously, it has been for a long, long time. I don't see anything changing that status in the near future. If something happens, great. But, I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Frank, I don't get up to Sportland too much during the evening hours...
I assume, though, that the go-karts there tend to get a ton of business, huh? I know the ones at the old Hunt's Pier seem to constantly be in use.

Is Sportland the pier that the dunk tank is on?? It's in NWW right??? I don't remember the piers before the fire too much. We started going in the summer of 2002. How many piers did the Morey's own?

Thanks, Anthony!
Wow, sounds like you have done some really interesting work, particularly in the music field.
I've been kicking around a number of Wildwood-related writing and research projects for a while now. I'll contact you soon, and perhaps we can put our heads together on a few things.
Likewise, if there is anything you ever need help with (writing, research, whatever), I'm sure I can help out.

momto2, you started going in the summer of 2002? I guess you missed out on Castle Dracula, huh? It burned down January 2002 after 25 years of operation, it was built 1976. And riding the Golden Nugget? It closed after 1998 when Dinosaur Beach was sold, it was also closed 1995 before Dino Beach. It operated every year from 1960-1991 under Hunt's Pier. Weren't you ever in Wildwood before 2002? The castle was next to the Splash Zone waterpark which was new in 2000, it replaced the Nickels Midway Pier rides which were there from 1985-1998, before that was the wooden Roller Coaster from 1919-1984. The old mill boat ride (Dungeon) was also built 1919, that was destroyed with the castle in 2002, it was the oldest ride in Wildwood.

The first time I went to WW was in 1999. I don't remember what attraction was what. It was only until I had my kids (boy /girl 3yrs) that I became OBSESSED with WW. We will make a trip from Long Island (eastern) just to go to WW. I don't consider myself a shooby or Benny because we still come down to the shore on the weekends in the winter & off seasons. LOL! We'll probably be down this weekend.
