1999 was the first year the Golden Nugget was closed. I rode it the year before, as well as 1996, and between 1980-1983. In 96 the new owners made some changes to it by adding dinosaur props and new dinosaur sounds inside. Originally it had a western/mining theme. I remember some of the old way but it was so long ago (1983) when I rode it with the original theming. Since your first visit was 1999, momto2, you never had an opportunity to ride it. It has been closed to the public the past 6 years. The only hope for it now (and for you being able to ride it for the first time, as well as your kids) is if the Morey's reopens it. It is supposedly reopening 2006 but it's not guaranteed. You should check out www.funchase.com momto2, lots of pictures of the old rides no longer there, such as the other rides on the former Hunt's Pier (Golden Nugget pier) that were removed, most of them in 1989. That pier was a much different place before 1989. Lots of themed rides built in the late 50's/60's. Also check out www.darkinthepark.com it has lots of pics of Wildwood's Castle Dracula which burned in 2002. You can see what the inside rooms looked like. Also Brigantine Castle which was north of Atlantic City, closed in 1984, burned in 1987, and the Long Branch Haunted Mansion, burned in 1987 are featured, too. Those were the scariest haunted attractions at the shore. Too bad your kids won't even see the Wildwood one (Castle Dracula) since they were born too late. But, they'll have fun in other ways. Take them on the Pirates ride and the others.
