Never really thought about this before, but when a motel is set to be taken down, do they have an estate sale, or do they just throw out and demo the whole motel. I would love to have bought some items from motels long gone.

They have demo sales before they level the buildings. Selling anything and everything, since the wrecking ball will take whatevers left. re

yes they do. that is one of the reasons that we drove from michigan to wildwood in october. we wanted to get some of the things that were important to us.
we ended up getting the chairs from outside our room, the ashtray (we don't smoke, but we used to keep our coffee cup there), a lawn chair, our room number and the key to the room.
It was so special to us. I cannot thank the owners enough for this.
It makes for great story telling to our friends. they thought this was a neat thing to do.

yep, it was the packard. it was a great place to stay and will be missed. we are going to use our chairs in the back yard this summer so that we will always have a little piece of wildwood with us. This way i can still enjoy my morning coffee outside sitting on my chair. too bad i will be looking at my backyard instead of 26th street and all the activity that we would watch.
Yes, we live in michigan. Not to many people in michigan know about wildwood. its about a 700 miles drive for us, but it is worth it.
We have tried to take friends with us as often as we could so they too can enjoy this wonderful vacation spot.
wildwood will forever be in my heart.

Don't forget, lots of people go to Wildwood from as far as Canada, Montreal Quebec, Ontario, etc. Wildwood gets alot of Canadian tourists I remember. While we're on the subject of Canada, they come down to us (Wildwood), so maybe sometime we should go to them (Niagara Falls) because they have a Castle Dracula walk-through attraction in addition to a House of Frankenstein, Haunted House, Ghost Blasters dark ride, Nightmares walk-through, very scary, Screamers walk-through, very scary, Horror Manor plus a few others. Wildwood once had 3 walk throughs with those same titles, Castle Dracula, Castle Frankenstein (Fun Pier), Haunted House (Morey's Pier) Both Castle Frankenstein (burned down) and Haunted House in Wildwood vanished after 1984. Now all 3 are gone. But, Niagara Falls, Canada still has every one, some were built in the 70's. And Niagara is a year-round resort, the haunted attractions are open year-round. They're on a tourist street called Clifton Hill, with the scarier ones on Victoria Av. at the top of the hill. There's also wax museums, Ripley's Believe It or Not museum, Marvel Super Heroes City with dark rides. It's like a mini-Las Vegas, there's gambling, too with 2 casinos. I was never there yet, but would like to go because I like tacky stuff like that. (Like the old-school fun houses, haunted houses with creepy atmospheres, day-glo paint, live actors, etc.)

my grandparents heard about wildwood from friends. we have been going off and on for about 40 years. When i was a child, it would be my parents, my brother and my grandparents all going to wildwood. Though my grandparents are now gone, i still look at the bench that they used to sit on by Morey's Pier. they loved to sit there and watch the world go by. They will always be part of wildwood.
I have so many wonderful memories of playing golf on top of hunt's. starting the day off by riding bikes and my dad and grandfather would always make sure they were on the boardwalk for the national anthem. Then it was off to pierre's for breakfast! Finishing off the evening with dinner at groff's.
my parents still remember sitting under hunts pier for shade while we played on the beach. the ocean seems alot farther out now!
The love of wildwood has stayed in my heart my entire life. I still get the same excited feeling when we are coming into north wildwood and i can see the ferris wheel on Mariner's Landing.
I may be older, but it is a place where i still feel like a child again.

jms- very cool. Groffs was a childhood favorite of our family too. Still in in fact.. .. The morning bike riding on the boardwalk was something my sister and myself looked forward to each morning while on vacation. if you get time... look thru all the posts here and get a feel for thr restaurants and 'traditions' of other here and you will se that you too share the same traditions and loves in wildwood.
