Well, they jsut parked a large front end loader next to the Wildwood Diner. They also starting tearing the asbestos siding off of the tenament next door to the diner. It will just be a matter of time before the diner is a pile of dust..... just wrong.

Really a shame that it's come to this. Not being able to preserve the Wildwood Diner is another unfortuante missed opportunity for the island, but the writing's been on the wall for a long time for this landmark.
At this point, I guess it's best that the diner, and the building connected to it, are put out of their misery.
It will be very strange to look across the street and see an empty lot when I stay down at the Skylark later this month (assuming the diner is history by then, which looks like a good bet).

Terrible. And shame on the city for not moving on this when they had the chance. I find it hard to believe that something couldn't have been done with all the time they had. What says Doo Wop better than a classic diner?

Its a damn shame about the diner. It was such an icon for so many years. I almost hate to say it, but I'm looking forward to its demse for one reason only. I can no longer bear looking at it in the co ndition it is in. What happened to most of the siding over the winter? It seemed to just dissappear as the months wore past. Another place I will be happy to see go is the Buccanneer. I can't bear looking at it in its current condition any longer. When a car load of guys in their 20's stops by the Buccanneer because one nut wants to take some photos( thats me!) and the car load of them sits in silence and recalls memories of what was, and expresses feelings of sadness, and just stare in disbelief, it doesn't seem right. We're supposed to be going to the shore looking and recalling memories of good times. Its just a shame that recently as we recall these memories, theres a front end loader in our presence also.

When a car load of guys in their 20's . That explains why the lady at the Key Largo acted like she did.

Not all people in their 20's are party animals and only want to drink and get drunk and party. Beleive it or not I am a pretty low key guy who spends free time snapping photos and walking around the island on most of my trips. If you have a problem with me or anything of that nature, I suggest that you email me at the address located in my profile, otherwise, please keep your comments to yourself. I have been posting on this board for close to a year now and had no issue with any person. I would prefer if you kept your negativity towards me off of this message board. I never said that the insident at the Key Largo dealt with anything close to a car load of people. To set the record straight, there were 2 people in the car with me and one who was renting the room at the Key Largo.
Its such a shame that you seem so shallow that you actually will come onto this message board to trash a person you don't know, making inferences about them by gathering information without knowing what in actuality the entire situation entailed. Congratulations, you are one of the ignorant individuals who uses stereotypes to for your opinions about a person, a person you don't even know at that. This thread dealt with the demise of the Wildwood Diner, an institution that stood and operated for so many years as an icon of what things used to be like. If you have no comment on the diner, its history, or its future, please move your comments to an appropriate thread.
On a final note...
Since it seems that you have such an issue with me, or for that matter, any person in their 20's (judging by the comment you are refering to) you should know a little about me.
First off, I have a degree in Elementary Eduaction. Second, I work 2 jobs, one which is full time. Third, at my full time job, I am a member of the management staff which has a lot of responsibilities. Fourth, I am still a full time student. I juggle a full roster, a full time job, a part time job, I play in a marching band, and still find time to have a life. Fifth, In recent years, (from my 18th birthday until last August) I was the musical director of my previous band where my responsibilities included teaching a full score of music to be performed in the Philadelphia Mummers Parade, organize concerts and parades throughout the year, and I put a show together for when my band traveled to Ireland in 2002, where we won first prize in both of our competitions.
In essence, we're not all bad ass party animals. Some of us really do work hard in our daily lives just to make something of ourselves. I like to vacation in Wildwood just as many others do. I never knew there was an age requirement to go to Wildwood. I guess thats new. Until you get to know me, I'd appreciate your comments and negativity towards and aboue me to come to a hault. Deformation of a persons character is not necessary in any aspect of life, let along on a message board to recall memories, share stories, and hardships, all dealing with a place that we all seem to love so much. I love Wildwood, and I'm sure you do too. There is one thing that we have in common. Maybe your opinion of things differs from mine, but thats what makes America so great. We are allowed to have those differences. I'm sure you are so passionate about your feelings towards my experience at the Key Largo simply because you love Wildwood. I am so passionate about my feelings regarding my experience at the Key Largo because I love Wildwood. I just don't appreciate the fact that inferences are being made about myself or my friends.

Rick, I have two friends who manage a Wawa, so I know what a difficult job that is.
Not that managing a McDonald's (or any other fast food-type restaurant) isn't crazy hectic as well, of course. ;D

When my dad went to ww has a kid in the 50's he told me the ww diner was the place to be. Made great breakfasts. Still surprised that if this diner was a landmark no one bid for it when it was on ebay. What was the starting bid?

Hulk, it basically came to the point where the owner was willing to give the diner away as is (not sure what the condition was at that time), given that the buyer would assume all costs for uprooting and moving it to a new location. The cost of which, apparently, was more than anyone was willing to take on. Sad, but true.

Intersting that no one was willing to relocate it. I can't believe of the 300+ people signed in here no one knew someone that was looking to go into the diner business, however time marches on and there are still plenty of places in ww to get a good breakfast. Personally Samuel's is tops

It's a shame, but I'm sure the overall expense of moving the diner and finding land for it to occupy would have been astronomical... perhaps to the point of being just too risky an investement for anyone to take on.
It really is amazing how quickly this place went downhill. I mean, I remember eating there five years ago while staying at the Brittany, and while the food wasn't great (standard diner fare), the diner itself appeared to be in very good shape.
Great location there also, right in the middle of everything on Atlantic Ave. in "midtown" Wildwood proper. Ah, well... what could have been...

Like Al said.. 5 years ago I would have never thought this place, in its prime location and excellant shape would have met its fate like this. Never.. But ya never know.. Just like what happened to the Lauray
