If checking out Thom Fontannaz’s (JerseyDigger29 here on the boards) great news site, The Wildwoods Reporter, isn’t already part of your weekly Monday routine, make sure to bookmark the site and check it out! Today, Thom’s got renderings of and information on two of the latest highrise condotel projects to be announced – the approved (and, as yet, unnamed) project at 3800 Ocean Ave. and the proposed (but not yet approved) Martinique, which would be located on the site of the old motel and nightclub of the same name. Great, great work as always, Thom! www.thewildwoodsreporter.com

Which motels are at the 3800 block of ocean ave? Crazy - The condotel to be built at 3800 Ocean doesn't have a name yet. It will be located directly across the street from the Boardwalk Mall at Garfield Avenue. The only things on that lot are a parking lot and a really old rooming house that sits aside all by itself. The rest of the block is the Quebec Motel, which I don't believe will be part of the new condotel, I think! As for the Riviera. Yes, those hotels will be replaced by the two towers of the new Riviera. (Keep in mind that only the AA Heart of Wildwood WEST will be replaced, not the one on the boardwalk side.) Also remember that the Riviera design might still get larger depending on future property purchases on that two block area. The Wildwood Diner (the old decrepit one) is also going. I'm not sure yet about the Tropicana. Thom Correction: I think there is also a rooming house behind the Garfield Avenue Side of the parking lot. Can't remember its name right now and I don't know if it is included in the new property. Probably, because of the sheer size of the new condotel.

So the stardust will be okay? Just the A&A and the Riviera and whats behind them? Anyone? Sorry, I missed your last question. The Stardust IS part of the new Riviera Resort. It will be torn down, too. I believe the Stardust is owned by the same people who own the current Riviera. Thom

Thanks Thom. I was afraid This was going to happen. I think the owners of the Riviera also own The Sea and Sun Motel right next to the Heart of Wildwood Motel ( part 1 ) It is just a tiny little place but in great shape.

Yes, I think they do own that too but I don't think that hotel's going anywhere. No construction on the boardwalk side, remember? Thom

How can we stop this development, town meetings? This is ridiculous.

Probably, because of the sheer size of the new condotel. I'm not sure if anyone heard about the status of this development? When I was there two last week I think I parked in this lot right next to the Boardwalk. As I paid the lady I noticed a large sign on the side of her shed that proclaimed whatever new high rise that was going up there. I commented something like "oh so one of those is going up here? wow." and she said that it used to look that way but now the developer wants out of the project. She said he said it was becoming too much of a hassle and couldn't handle it. She said he originally bought the lot for $3 million something and now was trying to unload it for $5 million. I really don't remember what street I was on, but I think by the description given above, this is the site I was at. Interesting...
