Thats a great idea! Somthing downtown is a great idea! It will give people the chance to see the great hotel motel history on the island! Also, frank the web site idea is great too! I like the idea of having a birth date of these great hotels, motels.

Excellent ideas!
I would really like to see some sort of Doo Wop “Walk of Fame” established, perhaps somewhere in the downtown area.
Many of the old neon motel signs that have been saved over the years could be incorporated into this project. Imagine a strip of, say, Pacific Avenue lined with restored neon signs of the Wildwoods’ past.
It would make for an incredible visual, for sure!
Has anyone here ever been to one of those drive-through Christmas light display parks that pop up every holiday season? They are a delight to swing through (Core Creek Park in Bucks County, PA is one my family used to frequent).
Those parks pipe in Christmas music, so you can role down your windows and listen to the “sounds of the season” while the family enjoys the lights. Perhaps, at the Doo Wop “Walk of Fame,” 50s-era music can play while folks drive or walk by to enjoy the neon strip.
Another idea is to open up sponsorships for each sign, as a way to help pay for their preservation and continued upkeep. This could be similar to the Adopt-a-Highway or Adopt-an-Animal (Zoo) programs that are out there.
For instance, an individual or family could “sponsor” the old Blue Jay Motel sign for one year at a to-be-determined price. The sponsorship donation could help pay for fresh paint, new neon, electric, etc. Donors would also receive some memento related to their sponsored sign.
What do you guys think?

Great ideas guys! If the signs were "sponsered" and fixed up, they could one day be given or sold to people who may want to build a new motel in the same style or exact style of a fallen one. That would be cool.

Great ideas. It could be an ongoing project and if it were placed on Pacific Ave, it would give that area a real WOW effect.

That would be cool. It's another cool idea, Doowopper! Not only that, but perhaps money could be raised to construct replicas of some of the signs that have already gone to Doo Wop heaven. You can never fully bring back the past, but there's no reason why all of the great motels that are no longer around can't be represented in some way, shape or form.

Wonderful idea. There are many places to see the history of the Wildwoods too. The museum on pasific ave for one and even Cool Scoops has a wall of fame of the buildings and artists that appeared in Wildwood in the 50's...its new I think. The exisitng neon sign should adorn the new Surfside restoration building. Thas the home of the new Doo Wop museum.

Why not take an idea from Walt Disney World and Main Street USA. They have a whole building attraction just about Walt and his life and the start of the great attraction that it is today. Take a piece of boardwalk, say a former store or stores and turn into a fun, exciting place for people to walk thru as an attraction to see the WW's as they were thru sight and sound. Take the $ from the attraction and use it to further preserve WW.
