I know it's hard to choose, but whats your favorite style of architecture in the Wildwoods? My favorite is probably the Polynesion themed places like the Waikiki and the Ala Kai.

I really don't care at this point in time, as long as it's kitschy and has a lot of neon and is not in danger of being torn down...I guess that's my favorite Doo Wop style these days.

Like Anthony and Frank, I am not partial to any specific “Doo Wop” style.
If you would have asked me this question five years ago, however, I probably would have given a definitive answer.
With so many motels falling to the wrecking ball lately, however, I find it rather difficult to pick one style over another. All I can say is, if it’s “Doo Wop,” if it’s zany, crazy, creative, distinctive, unique… if it screams “WILDWOOD,” then I love it!

OK, having said all of that (and having had the chance to think about the original question while typing my response), I will say my tastes are probably similar to Doo Wopper’s.
I have always been rather partial to the Polynesian/Tiki-themed motels, for whatever reason.
I guess it has to do with my fondness of the old Tahiti Motel, a place that holds tremendous sentimental value for me.
Even more likely, however, is just the fact that this is the most popular overall motel theme in the Wildwoods. Therefore, places like the Waikiki, Royal Hawaiian, Ala Kai, Kona Kai, Ala Moana and so many others probably echo the plastic palm tree spirit of the island best.

I guess I like the polynesian/tiki also. But whatever stlye motel, I miss walking down the street at night seeing all the motels with their lights on and their pools lite up and sparkling in the water. It was just so magical to see.

The greatest looking motel ever in the Wildwoods, the late, great, Casa Bahama. Why they could not save this one I will never know. If I ever strike it rich I would get the original blueprints to this motel and build it exactly as it once stood.

Chris, I know what you mean. I think that is the best way I've heard it described...magical. I miss the same things as you. I miss the lights and the sparkle....I miss the drive to see all the lights as we first enter the island. I spend the majority of the summer months in Wildwood and every time I go, I do that drive. Problem is, its not like it used to be. Maybe we can all work at saving what we still have left.
