Let's say, theoretically, that you have the means and the ability to build and run your own Doo Wop motel in the Wildwoods.
- Where would you build it?
- What would you name it?
- What would the theme be?
- What kind of architechtural designs, patters and color schemes would you use?
- What would you do to ensure that this motel is both unique and conceived in the true spirit of the Wildwoods?

Al,
Good question!
Theoretically, I'd pretty much keep the ones that remain and then try to update those structures with refurbished neon, more modern paints, and NEW FRESHLY FABRICATED PALM TREES.
But then again perhaps the saying about everything old one day becoming NEW again has a ring of hopeful truth to it!
I'd like to see more updated versions of the original Wildwood motels come back in a more modern effort to be honest, and if new motels were to be built again.

How about- "Futurama 2000"
In the crest- with a roadside sign/statue of a robot that looks like "lost in space".
each letter of the hotel name would light one at a time- F-U-T-U-R-A-M-A-2-0-0-0, and then it would flash 3 times "*FUTURAMA2000-FUTURAMA2000-FUTURAMA2000*"

The Wildwood Motel would occupy a large space on the boardwalk. The entrance to the boardwalk would be a large museum representing Wildwood and everything 50s,60s,and 70s. Of course there would be sections dedicated to other doo wop motels of wildwood, atlantic city, and asbury park. There would also be a section dedicated to the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines, and of course one dedicated to The Beatles. Then There would be an elevated section with a pool an a lounging area and then there would be a nice enclosed lounge with a restaraunt and a bar. Then there would be the nice hotel rooms. The doors would be painted in different colors of the rainbow with many plastic palm trees.

There are certainly plenty of motels in the Wildwoods that could use a little refurbishing, even something as simple as a fresh coat of paint a bit more often. Out of curiosity, have you seen the new, fiber optic novelty palm trees that are being sold these days? I've seen them recently at various roadside nurseries in NJ (most notably Hogbins, along the Black Horse Pike in Williamstown). I'm not exactly sure how to describe these. But, they look incredible. They are, essentially, large plastic palm trees that come in a variety of brightly-painted colors. They look awesome during the day. But, at night... Wow! They absolutely sparkle, with the bright colors of the plastic structure itself and the fiber-optic lighting technology lighting up the upper, "leafy" portion. I'm really surprised we haven't started seeing these things pop up in the Wildwoods yet. Trust me, you'll probably see them somewhere soon, if you haven't already. They look incredible, and would be a really nice addition to any motel in the Wildwoods.

The idea of a roadside neon sign in the design of a robot is great. Surprised it hasn't been done (at least in the Wildwoods), to be honest. Great name, also. And, I also like the idea of the flashing sign, with the letters lighting up individually. Cool!

Especially if it were to serve as a flagship-type motel for the resort. Where, exactly, on the Boardwalk would this motel be located? Which entrance? (And, how much room would it take up?)

Al,
No I haven't actually seen any of these "new" palm trees but you certainly have made me curious! Hopefully, I'll get to see one sometime soon.

Anthony, The link below shows a pretty close example of the novelty palm trees I mentioned the other day. Apparently, a lot of different companies are starting to produce these things, in varying sizes and colors. I think they would look great in the Wildwoods! www.tropicalpartypalms.com/

As many of you I am planning on making a career in the hotel/motel managment field. Eventually I would like to own a property in the Wildwoods. Location dosent matter as long as it is no more back than the front of the second block. In my spare time Iv'e thought of "what if I could build a motel there". I have thought of some pretty interesting ideas. The motel would be called the "Blue Moon Motel" (after the song of course). It is probably used in a motel elsware but none with that name are in the state. I would have a sign similar to this with some different colors etc. The motel would be styled in a futeristic look. Lots of blue tinted glass, recessed lighting outside, and modern furniture inside. (the motel which uses the sign above is the Moon Motel, on the middle of Route 9 NJ in Howell. Does not fit in at all, but is still running and in nice condidtion)!

Al, thanks for the new link, just wish they made that movie larger? They are so neat, think we'll see some on the Island this summer?

Al, thanks for the new link, just wish they made that movie larger? They are so neat, think we'll see some on the Island this summer? re I sincerely hope we start to see these trees on the island this season. I have a feeling that once they appear, they are going to start popping up everywhere. I would like to see them become cliché, to tell you the truth. The more brightly colored electric palm trees (or something along these lines) we can get, the better!
