As many of you I am planning on making a career in the hotel/motel managment field. Eventually I would like to own a property in the Wildwoods. Location dosent matter as long as it is no more back than the front of the second block. In my spare time Iv'e thought of "what if I could build a motel there". I have thought of some pretty interesting ideas. The motel would be called the "Blue Moon Motel" (after the song of course). It is probably used in a motel elsware but none with that name are in the state. I would have a sign similar to this with some different colors etc. The motel would be styled in a futeristic look. Lots of blue tinted glass, recessed lighting outside, and modern furniture inside. (the motel which uses the sign above is the Moon Motel, on the middle of Route 9 NJ in Howell. Does not fit in at all, but is still running and in nice condidtion)! Cool idea, Doowopper. I also wish you the best in your future, motel-owning endeavors. Where are you at, school-wise? What will you be majoring in at college?

I will be finishing high school in about another year and a half. I am planning on majoring in Hotel/Motel man. and minoring in Music. I have always enjoyed fixing stuff up, and I continue to work helping renovating an old school during the summers. I enjoy taking old stuff and making it look like new, and then making sure it stays that way. I guess I just like keeping myself busy with projects like that.

I would call it Blueberry hill. Have a roller skating check in desk where you won't have to get out of the car they will skate to you. Of course they would be also manning the attached restaurant with the waitress thing as well. I would put it in NWW say where the kings hotel is to attract some foot traffic off the boards. The rooms would be modeled after the cunninghams living room with a little laverne and shirley mixed in.

Doowopper, You're obviously a very ambitious, motivated guy. You're also incredibly knowledgable about the history and culture of the Wildwoods for someone your age. Most high schoolers seem pretty clueless about such things to me, but perhaps I am not given those just a few years younger than me enough credit. At any rate, good luck again with your career endeavors. The Wildwoods need more people with your desire to preserve its cultural treasures. Have you picked a college, by the way?

I love the idea of the skating staffers, also acting as a waiting staff for the restaurant attached to the motel. I imagine this motel being painted in a light shade of blue ("powder," perhaps) with lots of black and white checkered design patters. Can you imagine staying in the Cunninghams' house, or Laverne and Shirley's old apartment? How about a room that looks like Fonzie's old, uh, living space? It would be neat if the people at the front counter wore sweaters like Laverne and Shirley did, with their first initial on it. Man, would I ever stay at this place!

Al,
I will probably spend a while at a local college for my "Core Classes" Where I go after that is still up in the air. Possibly Rutgers or a similar school. I am still not exactally sure how the whole music thing works (if it is a general class, or for the specific instrument, need to look into this one more)

They should rebuild some of the motels that were already razed starting with the Casa Bahama

Yes, let's buy all the condos and demo them and rebuild classic motels.

Great topic. My mom and I had this discussion while walking through the crest.
- Where would you build it? [glow=red,2,300]NORTH WW - Where the Sea Rose once stood. [/glow]
- What would you name it? [glow=red,2,300]SEA FOAM or SEA BREEZE[/glow]
- What would the theme be? [glow=red,2,300]Tropical, lots of "palmus plasticus wildwoodii" [/glow]
- What kind of architectural designs, patters and color schemes would you use? [glow=red,2,300]Neon lights in aqua blue and hot pink. I would have to copy off of the Chateau Blue for its nighttime pink lights above each room. In the Vroom style with angular railings and roof. A major focal point would be the pool area.[/glow]
- What would you do to ensure that this motel is both unique and conceived in the true spirit of the Wildwoods? [glow=red,2,300]I would abide by the DWPL rules for true Doo Wop architecture, but modernize it by creating more luxurious rooms. I would include lots of framed photos in the lobby of "my Wildwood", like where I stayed as a kid and where we went. Pics of places that are no longer there (Silver Sands, The Dolphin restaurant). And, if I could attach a restaurant then it would be done in the spirit of Captain Mac's and the Captain's Table.... very nautical and "old sea salt" (old-fashioning fishing gear). Maybe this isn't very original, but I would just want to get back that Old Wildwood feeling.[/glow]

Thanks Frank.... In my head, I have pieces of all of my favorite places mashed together. Especially those that are now gone.

It would be a combination of The Pink Champagne, The Caprice and The Lollipop. Definately full of 50's colors and matching lights even in the pool. The Caprice with the color of blue running down each doorway, the whole idea of theme as the Pink Champagne and the style of Lollipops thru the whole theme. Maybe champagne glasses in neon around the theme. Running color boards along walkways and stairs, and the pool area would have a fountain with the colors flowing with the water. Each door would have a sculpted theme shaped by each door, the door would become part of the architecture. I wouldn't forget the plastic palms. Maybe in pink?

The Casa Bahama is a true doo wop classic, it should be built again in some way, shape or form.
