I came across a website about a month ago with a page all about the various Doo Wop designs found in the Wildwoods. www.agilitynut.com/overnight5a.htmlShe also has alot of other pages of things that were popularized in the 50's - 60's, like various drive-in movie theatres and mini-golf courses. There are alot of neat pictures to look at.

Cool site and pics… thanks, MaryH!
A few months back, beachboy (where have you gone, buddy?) mentioned the stoic, “museum quality” of the classic Doo Wop motels in the wintertime. These pics really bear that out, as it looks like all of these pics were taken smack in the middle of a past offseason.
Let me “test” everyone’s knowledge of the Crest here a little bit.. Take a look at the pic of the Blue Marlin Motel. Something in this image is not quite as it appears. Do you know what it is? (OK, this is a little vague, but I know someone’s going to get this…)

It's definitely still next to the Carriage Stop, Frank.
The "something is not exactly as it seems" hint has something to do with the Blue Marlin Motel itself.
You were right on it when you said that "everything is closed tight for the winter."
On that note, what is the most "noticable" think about the Blue Marlin in the picture?

Is it that it looks like the windows are boarded up but it's really that the curtains are closed all the way?

Al, geez, you have me guessing here!!!! A few things.... 1. the antenna, thought they did away with most of those once cable was available? I remember having a tower on my property, got rid of that, it's now a driveway. 2, the Coke machine, they usually haul them away for the winter? I'm sure it's empty, LOL 3. the drawing of the fish on the building, is that really a blue marlin? re

I'm sorry, guys... I hope I didn't get anyone's hopes up that the answer to this question would be interesting or anything.
Actually, Doowopper got it. I probably underestimated everyone's knowledge of the Crest. You guys probably looked at the pic and didn't even pay any mind to those hideously-colored curtains.
I've shown people pics of the Blue Marlin before, and they always assume that the windows are boarded up. At a distance, that's exactly what it looks like. I have never seen a motel with curtains that look so tacky.
And yet, I love 'em.
Sorry again. Hope the answer wasn't a letdown. But, if you ever get a chance to show a pic of the Blue Marlin to someone who has never seen the motel before, I GUARANTEE they will assume that the windows are all boarded up.

Al, It's ok. Did get me thinking and ignore the obvious. The lining on the drapes gives it a boarded up look. But, in my defense, I knew they were curtin liners. re

I saw the site, I love those old motels with their wacky, funky designs and unique neon signs. Too bad WW especially Crest lost so many of them in just 2 years. I would like to check out Myrtle Beach sometime, they have amusement parks and a few dark rides like the Haunted Hotel, and walk-throughs like Ripley's Haunted Adventure, and Haunted House. And some Doo Wop type motels. I wonder if Seaside Heights has Doo Wop motels?

I haven't been to Seaside in a while but from what I remember it was just some older "beachy" homes and some condos. I don't remember seeing much if any motels. Seaside is more of a day trip place. Certainly no where near as many motels as the Wildwoods.

Yes. Seaside Heights has a few original motels which - like Wildwood and other Jersey Shore resort towns - were built in and around the 1950s and 60s.
The boardwalk also looks a lot like it did in the 1960s.

Seaside is nice.. They have (had) a older boardwalk that is simular to WW. Not as big but it has the funky games of chance, rides and suck like our WW does. Even had (had) a shylift like you would see to take you up a mountain to ski that parallels the boardwalk. Pretty cool. I found a link here.. www.jerseyboardwalk.com/sehtitle.htmFrank
